okay, i didnt want to say it earlier in the preseason but im not following the hype on nachbar, i realy want to belive he is what everyone is saying but i havnt seen it. so then i came to last nights game where he started and got extended PT but he couldnt make it the most of it, two missed layups right of the bat. you could argue that he didnt get many touches but he didnt try to make any for himself either. and on defense i didnt see anything great, but just my opinion...anyone care to explain the hype
I am predicting a break-out game tonight vs. Philly for Nachbar. In my opinion he was made pretty good progress after rehabbing from surgery this summer.
Nachbar is going to take some time. I think he has some skills and the confidence necessary to be good at this level. He just needs some court time playing at this level. He's only 21. And certainly deserves every chance to mature.
yea he is 21 and will take some time but he aslo was the 15th pick in a crucial year for the team and has been playing pro ball overseas,,,hey i wish the same as everyone and hes just trying to get adjusted
I thought he was 22? Anyway, that's nitpicking, but I think he'll do fine this season. Slowly but surely he'll come around like Griffin last year. Like I mentioned in another post, in each game he's played he's gotten more and more fluid even though he's still measuring his shot. You can tell by his decision making that he's a smart player so he'll get there.
You cannot expect a 21 year old european FIBA player to come in and contribute right away. I mean, people were expecting the guy to start right off the bat. Look how long it took guys like Nowitzki, Peja and Torkoglu to adjust to the pace of the NBA game. It may take a couple of seasons before Nachbar gets there. Obsviously there's no guarantees he may eventually be as good as those guys, though. When he peaks, Rice will be gone and he will be ready to share the 3 on a regular basis with KT or maybe Morris if the preseason wasn't a fluke.
Nachbar is solid. He has been in the flow of the games, and it's obvious that the speed of an NBA game is not overwhelming him. For a rookie, I think he looks fine. He has gone at the basket a few times and takes the open shots that come his way. A little more timing, and he'll be good for 8-10 pts a game. For now, it looks like he is happy to scrap on defense and dish off to the other scorers.
Other than missing his shots he seems to be doing fine. He's not out there stepping on his teamates toes like Langhi. He seems to be a definite upgrade over Walt Williams. He was never known to play decent defense so his limited abilities in that area do not suprise me. There is still too much good basketball to be played for me to be dissappointed with his abilities. He really does need to hurry and get his rhythm back though. maybe he can recapture it if he starts hanging out with Murphy and listening to some James Brown.
No offense, I've just seen similar posts in several threads and I happen to be resonding to this one. This year is crucial for Les Alexander's financial bottom line this year (don't worry Les) for the contending future of the Rockets unless Steve, Yao, Eddie or Cat get career-altering injuries. This mindset has been used to argue angainst the drafting of Yao too. If Nachbar stays on the reserve list all year (which I doubt) or just stinks in limited playing time doesn't mean the Rockets made the wrong pick. Ever since the Rockets got the #1, the future changed. I think the Rockets make the playoffs, but if they don't (the West is pfugly) improvement and chemistry could still make it a success. Hell, Eddie Griffin could make this season a success alone without SF or Cat improvement. If we win a playoff series this year, that would be huge. And that won't mean we were title contenders. We simply aren't going to be this year no matter who we took with 15th pick. The arena is being built, SF's got a 90 mil. extension, Yao Ming's going to be a monster in a year or two. From a basketball standpoint how is this season crucial? No matter how little you've been impressed by Nachbar, if he's very good in March of this season, or next I assure you that's what's really important, even to the financial bottom line. And NBA rookies picked around 15 can be highly deceiving.
I guess i got caught up in all the hype about Nachbar hitting all the three's in practice and with articles like these in sportingnews http://www.sportingnews.com/voices/sean_deveney/20021023b.html http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/articles/20021023/434844.html I wasn't expecting him to struggle especially offensively. But these last couple of preseason games have brought me back down to reality and made me understand he's just a rookie. Its gonna take time. But a small piece of me can't help but think of another "Practice All-Star" who just couldn't get it right during a actual game.
I haven't been able to watch a game yet ..so can't really comment on his play..but I don't notice anyone taken after him lighting it up.
He doesn't seem to have any lift on his shot at all. I guess he doesn't have his game legs yet. It could be due to the fact he had surgery and is still going through some pains of sorts. Even on his drives you don't see the lift like I saw on the clips of him on this site. At least he's doing some other nice things on the court.
I think the good news si that at least Nachbar showed up today. And he is improved every susbsequent game. Having said that I think he is still behind the cyrve on where I expected him to be at least offesively based on what I was reading coming out his workouts. Well I guess we have to account for him getting used to NBA and recovering from the hernia.
Dirk was not good at all his first year in Dallas. People were slamming Nelson for taking Dirk. Now what are they saying? Give Boki some time.
He is not Langhi!! He doesn't look confused out there and he is not shooting airballs. Although the hype was about his shooting, he was not a shooter in Europe judging from his 3 pt % over there. Rudy liked him because he played above the rim which I imagine is effected by the hernia operation. He said last week that he was still in pain. However during the SA game he did try to go to the rack but missed. I think when he be comes healthy, you will see him attacking the rim more often and then we can judge him.
Boki did well last night. He hit a three off of a Ming assist and hit 15 footer off the dribble as well. He is just starting to get that extra step needed to be afffective in the NBA after the Hernia operation. Every game he has looked more comfortable and assertive. He is light years ahead of the Langhi and will be a big part of the rotation this season and for many seasons to come.
His progress is determined by our primary ball handlers.....Stevie and the Cat. The problem with Boki is that he isn't comfortable yet, and I don't know if he'll ever be until we get our offense "fixed". He's given the green light for one ISO play in the early going, he misses, and doesn't take his next shot until the next quarter or even the next half. Now, imagine how well any other good NBA player would play if he was under the same circumstances.
I thought Bokie was not known as a defensive player? It looks like he does not have alot of quickness and might be a defensive liability.
