A day later and it still doesn't bother me whether someone acknowledges my holding open the door for them.

Someone who doesn't hold the door in the first place would bother me more than not receiving a thanks.

Especially if the reason they don't hold the door open is because of some perceived slight.

    why you so serious?

I really don't care about social stigmas- if by coincidence someone is leaving a store at the same time as me, I open the door. Now, if that person is like ten feet away i won't wait for them/ they can open their own door:mad:

    fascinating stuff ain't it

I don't mind the lack of acknowledgement so much.

What really gets me are the super-independent girls who refuse any kind of help.

I was at a college camping retreat one time, and on the last night we had a fancy dinner. Everyone went all out, dressing in their best evening wear. There happened to be an even number of girls and guys, so the guys waited at the girls cabin to walk them to the dining hall.

When they figured out what we were doing, most of the girls appreciated it, but this one chick ran out screaming: "I CAN WALK BY MYSELF! I DON'T NEED A BOY TO LOOK AFTER ME!!!" and ran all the way to the dining hall.

Ruined the whole night for the dude who had to walk by himself. (Not me, in case you were wondering. My date was lovely.)

Women at work, there's the problem already....

(jk)... Way too many double standards and female favoritism at my workplace. Thats what happens when you hire 90% based on appearance. Doing that time and time and time again feeds into the entitlement, the whooping by p***y starts to seep in. When the women get together and form a mock labor union within the workplace, its tough to overrule. At my workplace (I'm sure its everywhere) the female bad day that leads to non-productivity is a "mood" thing. But mine is treated like an "incompetence" thing, WHATEVER.

So no, they don't get doors opened for them...

Even at the cost of my job, weeks ago I finally had enough and when they tried to lecture me on something I told them that female "work morale" should not have any more weight or preference over MY morale.

It didnt change anything really .... though this morning the girls opened the door for ME

Normally, I open doors for ANYONE out of courtesy.

I've learned when you do a good deed, it should be done out of kindness of your own heart and for your own sense of self-reward, even if its a completely empty deed. Because expecting it to work like an investment in good karma reciprocation, it will leave you unsatisfied.

I agree older ladies are much more mannerly about it then younger women. But I can understand some younger women thinking guys that guys helping them out have a "string attached" to it. Its over-generalizing but can understand.

Did you let out a big sigh and smoke a cigarette contentedly afterwards?

I hold the door for women so I can imagine having sex with them from the front and the back.

Wow that just totally made my day! I don't know where you got that picture, but I love the internet!

And yeah, I agree with everyone who says you should just open doors for people because it's the right thing to do.

i hate getting to this thread. first of all I get thanked for opening doors but women always seem to expect to get on and off the elevator first.

I had an ethics class my freshman year at UT. We talked about is there anything that people do that is done for purely selfless reasons. for example people give charity but there also is a sense that you feel good about yourself. not totally selfless. the one thing we talked about that maybe done for totally selfless reasons is holding the door for someone.
