he entered free agency at the end of this year instead of the end of last year? For the sake of controlling variables, lets assume that teams were working under the same CBA and had the same cap room that they had last year. I am thinking maybe $8-9 million a year. Certainly more than Conley money.
His value will rocket sky high. And for once I would be upset at Morey for letting the market determine his value.
Being that sometimes the money offered is basedn upon archaic statistics, and Lowry's value is more than just the numbers he puts up, I would guess that his offers would be in the 7 to 8 million range based upon this year's performance. DD
This. KM money for sure. If there was a desperate team like the Cavs they might break the bank and give him 12M a year.
Around there or little more. Considering Felton got close to that while putting up similar numbers. Lowry would probably get more since he is seen more as a player on the rise while Felton plateaued for a few years before signing that deal. EDIT: You should ask this after the end of next year when he puts up 17/7/5. The answer would be 12-13M aka Chauncey Billups money. Lowry got jipped. We got a steal.
He should be grateful that he is paid so much!He has a great contract! I expect that he will improve next season and be worth his great contract 2010-2011 season FG% 43.3%, 3Pt%: 38%, FT % 75.5% Point/Gm 13.5/gm. Yetti
You know who else got jipped on salaries in his career? Sam Cassell. Scrow all the way down to see lifetime earning: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/cassesa01.html It's unbelievable how little this guy made. Sam started his career late though (was a 24 year old rookie) and signed a longer term deal for a modest amount on his first non-rookie deal. When the salaries got higher in the NBA, Sam was stuck. I remember he wanted an extension but the rule on extension was that your new salary can't be more than 20% higher than your old one...
They would see right through Brooks. Score first point guard that offers almost nothing else. Lowry is definitely more complete with a shooting touch to boot.
And I thought the Rockets overpaid slightly for Lowry. As JVG pointed out in a recent interview, his contract is turning out to be an absolute bargain. Here's hoping he continues to prove this to be true.
I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't get more than the full MLE. When you go over that threshold, you're talking about bad teams with room under the cap that are looking for big names or big upsides. Even teams that strike out may still hope to use that flexibility in trades. Lowry may be a great little player, but I can see teams being worried that he'd come back down to earth after getting a contract, especially since his performance was impressive because of how hard he's hustled. How much upside from here could Lowry have? He can't work any harder than this. I don't think the perception of him being a big-time player will be cemented until he does another season like this one, and it'd be better if he showed he could do it under a different coach.
Kyle Lowry's stat line: Pts Asts Rbds 13.5 6.6 4.1 with a 16.89 PER Mike Conley's stat line: Pts Asts Rbds 13.9 6.6 3.0 with a 16.13 PER Not trying to say anything, but that's what the stats are...
Fortunately for us Lowry decided to develop a perimeter jumpshot and look for his shot more after he got his contract. However lets see if he can keep this up for an entire season. Trevor Ariza didn't miss a single 3 pointer in that Lakers playoff run.
