To those who attended last nights game

There was definitely a buzz. The crowd was more into it than a normal preseason game. The plethora of foul calls in the second half really slowed things down, though.

It was nice and long. Yao was smiling.

Other than the guys with Y A O ! painted on them, not much. One sign read "The Time is Yao".

Honestly, I didn't notice but I don't really go around counting ethnicities.

One funny thing was Clutch (the bear) brought out the life-sized poster of Yao and yanked people up out of the crowd to take pictures with it. As the team came out of the time out, he tried to coax Yao to go stand with it to take a picture and the crowd was yelling for it.

Yao, looking a little embarrassed, just said, "Nah" and laughed. Pretty funny stuff.

 

Any time Yao touched the ball or got up to enter the game, the fans would start cheering. There were 4 guys that were sitting next to me that had their shirts off. They had YAO! spelled on their chests. They were allowed to go on the court at half time and dance around. Around me, there was only one asian guy. Mostly white and black fans.

 

1. The atmosphere was awesome, even just walking to the arena. I honestly thought it could have been sold out because while walking towards the arena, they were people asking if we had extra tixs.

2. The ovation was pretty awesome. Everybody standing up and cheering everytime he touched the ball. This one guy that sat a section to the right of me said "Your ok in my book." after he made his first shot. The roof was about to come down if only he made the 3 pointer attempt.

3. Just the signs Jeff mentioned.

4. Umm, I did notice a few more than usual. Even most of them were sitting in the lower prom. But in all honesty, I saw more Iverson fans than Asians.

 

Were they discussing the plan to steal Ming from us four years later?

 

The second quarter of the game last night was awesome. The sound level in the place went from moderate to fanatic to moderate to fanatic to moderate to fanatic for a good five minutes there everytime Yao did somethign good - which was often in that quarter.

 

I liked the extra excitement in the air.

There seemed to be a few more asians but I never paid attention before so I don't know if there were a few more or less. Maybe they just cheered louder this time.

One thing I did notice is Pappasitos concessions not has a sign that said "we now sell asian food" and my order was taken by a cute asian girl. I asked the girl I was with if it was offensive that it took us having an asian player for the compaq to start selling asian food. She agreed it might not be offensive but it was sad.

Actually I got a question also for those go to the games. Can you bring cameras in? Just wanna make sure, because i am planning to go the opening game and Dream's retirement announcment.

I've seen lots of cameras at the Compaq Center, I guess as long as you don't bring a huge @ss lens, several bags of equipment or any movie camera's, you should be OK...

A disposable or small digital that would fit in your pocket could easily be brought in and I've seen it done.

 

You can bring cameras in. They just can't be of "professional" quality -- meaning they can't have a lens more powerful than the 80mm zoom that many cameras come with today.

Just remember to be patient, as security will need to search any camera bag you come with.

I particularly appreciated the playing of a certain song...

 

They did the same thing at Sunday's game. Yao didn't seem to notice what they were doing, as he was paying attention to Rudy's drawing out what play they were going to run next.

Man, that was a fun game. I caught one of the shirts the Powerdancers throw out to the crowd.

 

Uhh, I knew that it wasnt going to be the same game. I am planning to go to both games.

Good atomosphere considering the horrible attendance. Yao has certainly brought some excitement to the place. The guys with the "YAO!" painted on their chests were great. Good to see the Rockets are bringing in some Comets flavor by having the fans come on the floor and dance in the 4th quarter. The kids really get a kick out of it.

I saw the debut of the new cheerleaders. Some hotties for sure but they seem like clones to me. Do any of them have their own original hair color? I think they all must use the same bottle of coloring. I can't wait to see the new outfits that Tim has promised us!
