During the LA / Mil game on TNT comments made by announcer John Thompson about Yao Ming. He said once he gets a view of Shaq he will looking for a plane to get back to China. I listened to this crap from Barkley and Smith during the draft, and now the announcers have a problem with foreign players. Seems to me all the people complaining and running the foreign players down have one thing in common.
Um there is a story behind the comment though... They were showing a clip of Shaq with "vampire" teeth; while he was sitting on the bench (as a pratical joke) It wasn't meant as a "bad comment" toward Ming, just a joke. Besides, the way Shaq looked was frighting enough to send the whole population of Flordia out of the country.
Not that I'm a John Thompson fan, I think he's kind of a jerk, but the context of the comment should be mentioned. Shaq had some Dracula teeth in and was mugging for the camera with the teeth. Thompson makes the comment in reference to "Shaqula". I think all the comments about Yao actually legitimizes his talent. People (including Shaq) wouldn't be constantly be talking about him if he didn't give them concern.

Sometimes it seems as though guys like Charles and Kenny don't want foreign players to succeed. The more of them that do succeed, the fewer college players will be drafted. I don't think it has anything to do with most of the foreign players being white (although it might...I doubt it). I think it has more to do with guys who have been through the system being resistant to change of the system. Just a guess though.

They are all sports commentators Anywho.......man don't worry about it, the league is getting the best from the whole world now, so its all good. The commish even shut the jett and charles up at the draft, remember? So its not a big deal if Stern's handling it...........thats my take on it all.
I expect that from John Thompson. I think Charles will change his opinion, Charles did it more for show then seriously. John Thompson, don't get me started on him.
RM, I am with you on that one. Charles will change his perception. Once Yao becomes the true force he can be, Charles will be talking about coming out of retirement to play with him to win a ring. As far as John T., well I better stop there......
My friend always says that John Thompson once said David Robinson would amount to nothing when he was in Navy. So much for that prediction, does anyone know if this is true? And if it is I guess that's great news with Thompson's comments about Yao.
I would say no need to pay serious attention to what those sports commentators say, they often made controversial comments just to stir things up to generate attention. What often come out of their mouth are not necessarily what's on their mind, so there is not much point trying to get their head straight.
Tell that hillbilly John Thompson to go back to sucking ass off of Deke, Lonzo and Iverson.. leave Shaq (KAZAM) out of it
