As far as analyst are concerned Bilas was not the one complaining. Every analyst evaluating the brackets said VCU did not deserve to be in there based on their regular season resume. The committee was bashed by a lot of analyst not named Bilas because they put UAB and VCU in the tournament.
And again I don't see what the problem is or why he is being singled out. It was his opinion that based off their regular season they didn't deserve to be in it which was said by a lot of people. Not sure if you watched the selection show but Bilas was not the only analyst with a strong opinion. Apparently VCU didn't even watch the selection show so they didn't expect to make it. But it's great that they are making the most out of the opportunity given to them. People can all out analyst all they want but I didn't hear anyone but maybe 1 or 2 people saying VCU deserved to be in the tournament.
The other videos of his comments are in the link, along with other analysts. His comments seemed a lot stronger (didn't pass the "laugh test"? "indefensible", etc.), which is why he came to mind first. Maybe some players didn't, others obviously did... <object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kKJFqxdX0Tw?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kKJFqxdX0Tw?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>
I respect VCU for making this run but they still didn't deserve to get in based on the regular season resume. They finished 3rd in a mid major conference and they also lost 4 out of their last 5 regular season games(I think). So yeah they are playing great kudos to them it still doesn't change the fact that they didn't deserve to get in their based on their regular season.
When I saw their record, strength of schedule, etc. I wasn't wasn't against them being selected. I didn't think they would make it this far, but I saw nothing wrong with them being a chosen to play in a tournament of 68 teams.
Bill Self is a horrible coach when it comes to the tournament. Losses to Bucknell ,Northern ,Iowa VCU etc. is downright embarrassing. He had the talent to win it all this year.

It's but fitting that the VCU-Butler finals will be played in H-Town. Hey, maybe this year is really the year of the underdogs. (Still keeping my fingers crossed that we make it into the playoffs.)
