I'm so hyped about Yao that I'm finally posting. After his 2nd game, I think he's adjusting really well to the NBA game. His offense just needs time to work out the plays with the others, however, I did notice something about his defense.

Near the mid to late end of the 4th quarter, I noticed that Yao keeps looking for his man during defense and doesn't pay that much attention to the guy with the ball. On the block that was called for goal-tending, he was looking for his guy, then saw the drive and was quick enough to get back and challenge. I think if he was paying more attention to the play, the could have easily swatted that crap back to philly with no doubt in the refs mind.

Another situation, it seems like he didn't even see the shot and was looking for his man when he should have been boxing out for the rebound.

Perhaps it's because he's tired and the games too fast for him right now. Once he gets his peripheral vision going, we'll all gonna see a hell lot more rebounds and blocks from the big guy.

    Go rockets.

You took the thoughts right out of my head. I think that he is too cautious with keeping with his man instead of helping his teammates or grabbing rebounds. But, if we saw this then I am pretty sure Rudy and Co. saw this. It will be corrected and our defense will be better because of it. He did just arrive five days ago.

The one major thing Yao needs to work on is his rebounding. He does not box out at all. I was at the game tonight and he should have had at least 4 more rebounds. He also doesnt jump for the ball. My guess for that is that in China, he really didnt need to. But here, you have guys that are 6'9 and jump 40" for the ball. This will take time, but hopefully he can get a grasp of it.

I agree completely...He needs to focus in on the ball and rip it down strong with two hands to get the rebounds, this is the most important thing he needs to work on...I'm not worried though, he has the ability to do it because he has such great hands. I'm sure the coach will notice that and teach him because its not that hard to learn. He'll be so awsome once he gets more experience.

Hey how come you're still a Jr member? are you like a midget or something?

True, with experience, he will be much more improved in this area. He just needs time and instruction. I do not know why I am still a junior member. I have wanted to know for 5 months now.

Hopefully. Is rebounding a skill needs to be taught or is it something that you just have like Charles Barkley or Rodman? Hopefully, it's just the adjustment to the nba rules and players.
