So then the standings will be: Houston: 45-37 Memphis: 45-37 Portland: 44-38 Hornets: 44-38 Whats your prediction on Nuggets?
Memphis is not going to lose more than two games the rest of the way. The Rockets need to win out. It's mission impossible. Should have tanked

No prediction. Just trying to figure out what it will take for Houston to make it. It would take a monumental collapse by Portland and New Orleans for Houston to overtake them, and I don't see that happening. And forget about catching Denver. Houston's only hope is Memphis IMO. The Rockets better play every game like it's an elimination game and then pray that the Grizzlies stumble.

If Grizzlies stumble, our chance should be in the playoff's since we have a better record vsing Grizzlies. Right? or does it depend on the tie-breaker?
^ If we end w the same record, we've got the tie-breaker so we'd be 8th seed. If we can manage just 1 more loss, I think we could see Memphis go 5-3 for the "tie": MEMPHIS: GS W @NO L Minn W (3rd in 4, home/away/home...would be huge L) LAC W Sac L NO W @Por L @LAC W
Houston has the tie breaker over Memphis. (Check rpr52121's Magic Number post above.) That means the Rockets need to tie or better the Grizzlies in order to get the 8th seed.
Something that I have not seen mentioned is that, although NO has the tiebreaker against us, if we, Memphis, AND NO finish with identical records then we could still overtake NO in a tiebreaker. The way a three-way tiebreaker works is that, if three teams finish with identical records, the three teams who are tied are ranked based on winning percentage against the other two teams in that tie. Basically our winning record against Memphis could help us win a tiebreaker with NO (as long as, of course, Memphis were tied too). Record against other two teams in tiebreaker: New Orleans 4-1 (3 games against Hou/Mem remaining) Houston 4-3 (1 game against NO remaining) Memphis 1-5 (2 games against NO remaining) So IF New Orleans loses all 3 games vs. us/Mem AND there is a three-way tie, we would not only get into the playoffs but obtain 7th seed (while NO ends up with the 8th seed and Memphis ends with the 9th). This means that, given a projected 7-2 record for us for the remainder of the season, NO would only have to finish 3-6 instead of 2-7 for us to catch them. Besides NO's 0-3 record vs. us/Mem that they would need for this scenario to even be relevant, they would have to finish at 3-3 which is very plausible. I think NO could easily go 0-3 vs. us/Mem but Memphis would still have to go 4-4 in their remaining games for any of this to work. So yes, this is somewhat of a long shot but it's a possible scenario that I've seen no one mention.
nobody's mentioned it because in that scenario, we are caught up with the grizzlies anyway, and it doesn't matter what NO's record is (as it turns out).
The way they're playing, Memphis goes 6-2 the rest of the way. Rockets could still trump that if they go 9-0, but yeah... I'm ready to re-sign Adelman and see what Morey can do this offseason.
I love how 4 of the Spurs starters were "hurt" for tonight's game against Portland. I'm sure they will be 100% for their upcoming game against the Rockets.
we need some breaks. we're due for some. and man, who else is pissed that tony allen plays way above his heads?
effin spurs they really dont want to see us in the first round but they are playing with fire the Lakers are closing fast
i'm very frustrated that he's been playing so well. but i respect that, and sometimes we just have to change our perceptions about players when their environment changes. he had a small role in boston and was called to play a bigger role in memphis, and he is athletically capable...and as long as athletically capable is in the forumula, why the **** not!
Highly doubt that Pop and the Spurs are scared of the Rockets. Still think some of you guys on this forum are getting way too high about this recent run. The scoring won't come as easy against the better teams, and Houston's D is straight up garbage.
No sense in blaming other teams for their loses other than ourselves. All we can do is handle our business and put pressure on the other teams.
