    SlamN,

Webber will play for NY after Ewing retires. His best friend is Sprewell and he has already stated that after this year, he wants to play for the Knicks.

oakdogg, you must not watch too many Knicks games. Camby does hit the outside shot, but, he doesn't take those rediculous 3's that KT takes. Plus he gets out and runs on fastbreaks, which is what Francis, Mobley and Shandon love to do. As for your statement on having 2 Cato's on O, that confirms you don't watch any kKnicks games.

Alright, I'll defer to your Knicks knowledge, because I don't watch them that much as you have stated. I still don't think Camby's a good fit for the Rockets' O as you've stated, because Rudy's already stated he wants a PF or C able to shoot the three on the floor whenever the offense is run. Neither Camby nor Cato can hit the 3, so that's going to limit the minutes for one of them. That was my angle on why I was coming down on Camby.

I've also got a question about why people keep getting on Kenny T's case for shooting threes. Does he shoot them because he just enjoys doing it or is it part of the Rockets' game plan? From the way Rudy's drafted and the comments he's recently made, it seems to me that Rudy wants his PF shooting 3 pointers to provide spacing for the offense. If that's the case, why does everybody continue to diss Kenny for his shot selection when chances are that's what Rudy's asking him to do.

I also believe Kenny can hit the shot a lot better than he has been. In college, his 3 pt. % was just about as good as Collier, whose practically being touted as a big man 3 pt. specialist. Also, he had a pretty decent 3 pt. % (somewhere around 31 or 32%) after a large number of attempts last season until he hit a real bad spell that left him with such a dismal 3 pt. %.

The 3-point line in college is much closer than the NBA's.

I think KT got to play so much because he really needs the time. He looked extremely awkward at times with his posts moves in the two games I saw on ESPN2. In the first game against Utah, he always make a move in the post/drive to the right and it didn't matter if the defender was there, he'd just lower a shoulder into them and bowl them over. He got calls in that game but I don't see that happening in the regular season. He was better against Clev. but showed the same tendencies, especially on the play where he caught Tractor in the mouth. He needs all the time he can get, but so does Collier.

Keon Clark would fit really nicely on this team. This is one player I would definitely like to have on the Rockets. However, if the Nuggets want to use the 4.5 mil trade exception for Derek Anderson, you cant just throw it at them in this way. You would have to use it to take on that much in salary. For instance these deals would work on the cap:

    Deal 1

Rockets Get: Keon Clark (1.38 mil), Popeye Jones (2.91 mil) Total: 4.29 mil

Nuggets Get: Future pick, 4.5 mil trade exception Total: 4.5 mil

    Deal 2

Rockets Get: Keon Clark (1.38 mil), Bryant Stith (5.51 mil) Total: 6.89 mil

Nuggets Get: Bryce Drew (1.18 mil), Kenny Thomas (.89 mil), 4.5 mil exception Total: 6.57 mil

Both of these deals would give the Nuggets the 4.5 mil exception and could be expanded to include the Clips in a 3 way to get Derek Anderson for Denver. The first deal is more favorable to the Rockets as the second one would force them to eat up more salary cap space. That could potentially hurt in 2001. However, if they can clear off Walt Williams salary then it would be ok.

all you are going to get for that exception
is a salary that another team is trying to unload closer to the beginning of the when
they are ready to make their roster cuts.
you aren't going to get anybody you need that
way. there aren't any good free agents out there at this point that teams will be trying to clear cap dollars for. I could see
maybe Detroit trying to unload Christian Leattner, Toronto maybe wanting to get rid of
Antonio Davis's salary. Wesley Person could be had, and maybe either Chris Mills or Donyell Marshall, but not both. Nobody on
    that list gives me chills.

Let's all say good riddance to Kenny Thomas [IMG].

I also really like Keon Clark, especially at his cheap salary, and great potential. He'd also legitimately work as a PF next to Cato.

Now, on the exception, we can also put 2+2 together, and if this Charlotte thing is true about needing to trade Miller to a team with a 4.5 exception, we also have another option-give another team the exception for someone we want (I think Denver actually wants him, and perhaps 4.5 for Keon Clark+1-2 mill cap fodder would make them happy, in an attempt to get Brad Miller), and take a player(s) we want from that team for it. I love the versatility of it [IMG].

If I could have my pick of any of the ones listed at the top of the page, I would take PJ Brown in a second.

Donyell Marshall - I've mentioned this guy before and I still think he would be a good deal for Drew and the exception. He'll do a better on the boards than any of the guys we have now (10 last year!), give us some weak-side shot blocking, and can definitely hit the three (35.5 % on 140 attempts), something Rudy likes from his PFs. I've heard mixed things about his straight-up D, but chances are he's not any worse than Kenny T. He's taller than Kenny too and can play both SF and PF (I would hope he would play mostly the 4 for us).

I know he's available, because the Warriors are going after Fortson, need the cap room, and will have plenty of threes and fours once the deal is done. Marshall's been on the block for a while anyway. He may not be an all star, but I think he compares well to the guys listed as possibilities who are actually AVAILABLE for the exception and fits our team.

MManual, I do not want to pay Popeye Jones $2.9 million! The guy is so slow I've seen Shaq face him up (no kidding. It looked like Iverson on Maloney)! And why would we pay $5.5 million to another guard in Stith? I'm sure Mobley would love that when he's sacrificing for the team. If we were going to make such a strong play for a Denver PF (outside of McDyess of course), I would like us to go after LaFrenz. I'm really beginning to be under the impression that Denver would be willing to give up LaFrenz for a stronger, real center like a Brad Miller. Getting LaFrenz for the exception would be some kind of deal (maybe some kind of pipe dream, but you never know)!

Oh, yes, Donyell Marshall is definitely available. In fact, I can guarantee that Rockets management doesn't agree with you that he's worth the exception (plus Drew), because if they did he'd be in Houston already.

Your summary of him is mostly accurate except for his defense, which is flat-out awful. He can be beaten off the dribble by any SF, and outmuscled inside by any PF. Interestingly, because Donyell has very long arms, the only two players I've seen him guard effectively (sometimes) are PFs who use their length to shoot over people, rather than overpower them -- Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan. (Strange, but true.) In contrast, in a game against your Rockets, he made Bill Curley look like Hakeem as BC posterized him with a fake and easy bucket in the low post. (Stranger, but also true!)

Offensively, Donyell isn't as good in the low post as someone his size should be; he doesn't elevate much, nor does he get his shot off quickly. He prefers to camp out on the perimeter and launch 3's or long 2's. Please, please, take him if you'd like. [IMG]

yeah, chances are that you're right about the rockets not wanting him

i haven't gotten the chance to see him play much. I was just impressed by his stellar rebounding numbers and range. It's good to hear from someone who has seen him as much as you have. It is weird that he would be that bad on D. I mean he was a top pick and all, has size, can block shots, but I guess I'll take your word for it. [IMG]

He does rebound well, that's true, and blocks some shots. Which kept him a notch ahead of Jason Caffey in the "who's more pathetic" debates GS fans had all last year. [IMG]

What the Rockets can do and should do are not always the same.
