Not a bad deal, but I've heard that the Scientific Atlanta 8000 boxes that TW uses are slow and freeze more frequently than they should. A review can be found here: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...6LHh9.279169$vg.48303702@twister.nyroc.rr.com On the software side, it's the "Mac vs. PC" argument. The SciAtl software is adequate (although a big minus is that it requires you to select each show each time. No "season pass" functionality), but buggy and terribly inelegant.
TW just switched out my box today and now I guess I'm going to call them and tell them I want one of these new boxes. Hello, I'm the VooDooPope and I'm a TW junkie... Digital Cable HDTV HBO's NBA Season Pass Road Runner
I used to have all that (except HDTV) to go along with Skinemax and Hotime. I got rid of Skinemax and Hotime, to bring in ESPN Gameplan. I'm currently getting the NHL and MLB Channels 700-709 for free. It's been that way since like January... Don't tell on me please!
I signed up with their new subscriber 15% off per month till Dec '03 deal so that I could get League Pass. The catch is you have to get the Movie Pak. I'm all for the Movie Pak except its got the crap premium channels. Give me Skinemax!
If it's anything like their In-Demand, no thank you. Even though I wish I had the option...AT&T sucks ass.
www.timewarneraustin.com Maybe its just available in Austin? My friend picked it up yesterday and said its fantastic. The new box is faster with Time Warner's new software update from last month. Ever since they added the new free On-Demand channels, the onscreen guide has been really slow. but not anymore. i'll be picking mine up in six hours!
TW houston knows nothing about DVR. I called and I knew more about the product from the TW website than the Tech in the Houston Office knew. I offered to do beta testing for this area, but the supervisor said they didn't have a product for me to test and didn't know anything about it.
Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!! That really sucks. I was all ready to convince Mrs. Ref that it is well worth the 10 bucks a month. Now I find I can't even get it.
Austin TW Cable has always been leapyears ahead of TWHouston. Dunno why. I just got my DVR box! Thanks for posting this, dragp, or I would have never known!
Like I said I'm a TW junkie. Their office is right around the corner from my office and now every day at lunch I'm going to go pester them about DVR. Hell hath no fury like a cable junkie scorned.
AOL is evil. Always has been. Try to resist their tempting offers. It's best to just stay away. There's no reason for my disdain for AOL -- but if I can save a soul from damnation, I feel it my duty to speak up. It's been a very very long day.
