My dog, Bexar (the one on the right), passed away today. He had gotten sick a couple of weeks ago. Something caused fluid to build in his belly and he stopped eating. The vet tried meds and to drain it some, but ultimately at 14 years old, there was little we could do. He had gotten a little better earlier this week, but shut down when I left to go out of town for work. My wife tried to get him to eat and moving around, but I think he was just ready and hanging on until I got home. When I got home this afternoon, he was just laying on the floor. His vision was gone and he couldn't get up. He picked his head up when he heard me. I was hoping to wait until this weekend, but I didn't want to make him wait anymore. The dog on the left in the picture is Yellowdog. He was my wife's and then her parents when she left for college. He was Bexar's mentor and best friend. They get to be together again. Bexar was named as such because he was found on the side of I-35 back in 1997 as a weeks old puppy. A friend of my in-laws brought him to them and they took him in. In 2003, when my wife and I got our first house, Bexar came to live with us. He was a strange dog. Even as he got older, most people still thought he was a puppy. He had a ton of energy and just looked like a young pup...until the gray hairs started to grow under his chin. I went to get the mail tonight and it was hard to do it without walking him. I'm going to miss him more than I thought. Thank you, Bexar, for being a part of our family for so long.
eveytime i think about losing my dog it makes me so sad. Its the little things they do and they're unique behavior that you miss the most which is why its never easy to get a new dog. I know bexar was lucky to have such a great owner and a great 14 years of his life, its sad to see an animal that brings so much joy suffer to the end. Very sorry for your loss and I hope you use the fond memories of him to ease the grief.
I'm sorry for your loss but it sure sounds like you gave Bexar a great life and he returned the love back to you for a very long time. The memories will never go away.
Thanks, guys. I guess I wasn't prepared for how much I'd miss him. I went to get the mail last night and it was a very lonely walk.
Sorry for your loss; know you miss him. Bexar looks like my childhood dog, Lucky. He used to run excitedly up and down the fence when he saw us coming home from school. Dogs are great like that!
Sorry for your loss man, hope everything will be okay. At least you have a beautiful labrador to keep you company, that dog looks awesome. then again im a labrador fanboi
Actually, the lab in the picture died a few years ago. He was my in-laws dog. He was a great dog, too. I appreciate the sentiments none the less.
Que En Paz Descanse su mejor amigo. Why did you name him "Bexar"? Spurs fan? "Baxter"???? Spoiler FAIL
After watching the Last Minute with Oden video and reading this story, I hate to see my dog pass away even though he's getting to that age Sorry for your loss
did you read the original post? sorry to hear it leroy. i can't imagine the heartbreak we'll go through when we lose our ellie.
Yes, but I didn't see the connection... I guess he was either found closer to Bexar county, or inside of the city of "San Antonio [de Béxar]"?
