My last bird was a Half-moon conure. He was both mean and sweet, could say, "Watcha doin'" alot but also attacked anyone who came near his cage. Very loud & neurotic birdie. One day he flew out of the broken screen door I had never fixed. Sorry... I had done a searched for more quieter birds and came up with the Blue Headed Pionus. A little bigger than a conure although alot more quiet and mellow. Picasso is a fine bird. Already gets on my arm without biting, in fact he hasn't bitten once. Is already eating bird pellets rather than seeds(fattening) and enjoys bananas, mangoes and beans.
um, how do you pronounce "Pionus?" As in: "This frappin bird is a real PIONUS sometimes!" Congrats on the new cool pet.
What's goin' on Oily...It's slow to dead at the Herald. Good to know you got a nice bird. I remember the thread about conures you started. My son and I still feed the ducks each Tuesday and Thursday, 30 minutes before I have to leave him with his mother. Speaking of nice birds, one of the ducks has really befriended us and it eats out of my son's hand. My son gets a huge kick out of this and has named the duck Thomas. Good to see you Mr. Oily.
FT, Limiting my obssesiveness to one forum! That conure I got was from my cousin in Brownsville...the cousin thats never had a job and still lives at home at the age of 30-something...Hmmmmm, not sure how he got that bird, but you know the valley and its ways. BTW, I got my engine rebuilt and I too have no more oil underneath my truck!
Conures are loudmouths!!! I was under my car and I could hear them squawking away. Don't bother at the Herald. Nothing's going on. An engine rebuild??? I'm sure that cost a pretty penny. Glad you got it going!!!
We just got a cockateil about 3 weeks ago. This is NOT a picture of our bird, but a close look-a-like: I love teils. They are so friendly and animated. It doesn't take long for a teil to bond with its owner. Ours already thinks he owns us.
Nice bird. The wife and I bought an Umbrella Cockatoo in a Moment of weekness. We had Eli for 3 years and he was a good bird who loved to be the center of attention and thought he was a lap cat. When we had our daugher it cut down on the time we could spend with him and he started self mutalation and plucking his chest feathers. We decided it was best to give him to a friend who worked with my mother in law at the vet clinic and now the bird has a wonderful home and gets to be around people all day at the clinic. I miss the bird but getting rid of him was the best thing for all of us. Enjoy your new pet.
Cool!!! Picasso is a great name! How long does a PIONUS live? Is this a friend for life (and then some)? Some birds live longer than their owners!
No you cannot. My daughter pitched in some of her money because she had seen pictures of my wife and I's bird we had a long time ago and she really wanted one. So with that, she earned naming rights. I begged and pleaded for her to pick any name but THAT one, but she won out. The bird's name is Jazzy.
LOL! Gotta love your kids! rockHEAD, Pionus live around 20-30 years, so hopefully we'll retire together!
I just typed a post way to long about my Cockatiel and all his adventures then erased it somehow. To sum it up: he was named E.T. guess the year, he was the toughest animal i've ever delt with (fly into a wall full speed, would fight anything, survived a Bobcat attack (in his cage), and of course the ceiling fan a couple of times. He could whistle the entire theme of the "Bridge over the River Quai(sp)" and could say all kinds of weird things (all weirdly mumbled). Lived to be over 20 very old for a Cockatiel, and he enjoyed the freedom of having a cage that was always open (except when the Bobcat attacked). I have a feeling this post is also to long, but at least I have refrained from making any SNL animal specialist jokes (BF)
I had a female cockatiel named tessie...i could never get her to talk. she died two years ago and now lives at the base of the old apple tree stump i have in my backyard. great bird for kids.
Picasso and Jazzy (it's not really that bad of a name...) are both beautiful birds. I hope they have long wonderful lives in their respective homes.
