Does anyone do this or know someone who does? Is it a good career choice? Pros and Cons? Any information would be helpful. I have been looking in to MT Schools, and no Im not gay (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Good. God. No. Please tell me that you are extremely desperate for a job! I think I would rather sell cars than be a "massage therapist".
Come on guys? What's the worst that could happen in your message therapy career? Okay, at worst, an older, kind of smelly guy comes in, and he's sweating, and he says he needs some deep-tissue work. So once he's on the table, you see that he's the hairiest human being you've ever seen, more hairy that you thought was possible, and then you... AAAHHHH! Never mind! Forget I was posting anything here! AARRGHHH! Run!
Unless it was at a Fru Fru Spa where all the rich trophy wives go when their 80 hour a week working husbands are off playing golf with their buddies in Hawaii.
Jeezus I knew I would get these types of responses..... Back to all the crappy ass jobs on monster and hotjobs...........
Not sure if this is a good job or not, but it could have a definite upside if you market yourself properly and cater to a specific type of clientele
If I have a day off I'll spend four to nine hours in front of the mirror, trying just a tilt of the head or a furrow of my eyelash. I mean my body, my face are my tools. -- Hansel Moisture is the essence of wetness. Wetness is the essence of beauty. -- Derek
I knew a girl who got a job working as a masseuse at a heli-ski lodge in the Rockies. Every staff member got to go heli-skiing once a week.
Actually We were at a housewarming party awhile back and as part of the party they had a guy come in with a massage chair. He charged $10 fo 10 minutes. He cleaned up for one nights work. I don't know that I'd do it, but he did ok.
me feel guilty. Okay, honestly, I know a few people who really like their jobs as massage therapists. They typically set their own hours, can work for resorts or do free-lance work, and there's an ... um... growing demand for this type of thing. I even asked one of these people about the hairy guy scenario I painted above, and she said it's not a big deal. The only bad part, she said, is when someone takes a business deal to mean something more. So she has to turn down getting asked out by clients. She said the hardest thing about her job is that it's pretty damned tiring. All the joints in her hands and arms are really sore all the time. I don't know any guys who work massage. Seriously, go for it. Worst case, you'll be back at Monster.com but you'll have a new line at cocktail parties. "Want a massage? I'm a professional."
Both Mr. JB and I are licensed massage therapists. It can be a very rewarding career if you really enjoy helping people and you believe strongly in alternative forms of healing. Send Jeff an e-mail if you're interested in more in-depth info (especially from a male practitioner's perspective).
i got a contract job designing commercial web pages yesterday. after 9.5 months of unemployment, i actually got a paycheck today. felt good. and i get to work at home. Of course, i only got a contract for 1 month. but its still nice. maybe now I can get the new TW cable box.
What? Jeff is going to give us his opinion on every other subject but with hold the skinny on being a Male Massage Therapist? Spill the beans Jeff... whats it really like?
