Let's put aside all the homerism, attitudes of players, salary, etc. Just straight up talent when HEALTHY, who is the better player?
What does it mean when you say "straight up," statistically? Or in reality, on the court. Stats can hide a lot of BS playing.
Goran is a rocket, Brooks is a former Rocket i support them both (except when AB plays us) but honestly who cares what's done is done
Aaron Brooks is a better player. Quicker, better shooter, better finisher, equal distributor, and only a little worse defensively. But if he's pouting and not willing to be a backup that doesn't matter. It's not as if he's light years better than Dragic, he is better, but not by a whole lot. Brooks was gonna walk as a free agent, so we had to get something for him and Lowry is a better player, this is beyond arguing at this point. It was the right move, please let this go AB nutswingers.
Aaron Brooks was holding the team back. It was addition by subtraction and not a comparison of value between players.
Guys, I'm not debating if trading Brooks was the right decision. Yes, I agree, Rockets wouldn't be able to pay him in the offseason. And trading him was a must. I'm just asking who is the better player overall when they're both healthy. Just to settle a discussion.
Agreed. Brooks is talented. He can do things on the court many point guards can't. He was a good fit with the Rockets last season. We need more than scoring from our starting point guard. Morey made the right call at the trade deadline.
Individually - Brooks 1 on 1 - Brooks Team Player - Dragic Backup Player - Dragic Who would help the team more - Depends on the team Who is better straight up - Not comparable
Too bad we couldn't trade Brooks for Gortat. I'd much rather try to make that trade work, but oh well. Dragic is a stud.
This. I think AB can/will be a good starting PG in this league while the jury is still out on Dragic. I'd take Lowry over both Brooks/Dragic (clearly, RA/Morey would as well. Plus by getting rid of Brooks, the franchise is committed to Lowry and it seems to be paying off well so far). Meaning whichever one we have alongside Lowry would have to be the backup. Dragic seems much more suited for a backup role than Brooks (plus the fact that he is under contract for cheap is a huge plus). I hope AB can continue to stay motivated and play with his head on straight. I want to see him succeed. He played hard for the Rockets last couple of years and he is a really good player. I think the trade was a rare deal in the sense that it was great for both teams. We got a solid young backup PG on a good contract plus a 1st (an asset which Morey could use) and the Suns get AB (potential replacement for the aging Nash, he is restricted and I doubt the Suns will let him get away since they gave up quite a bit to acquire him).
Agreed, the only thing Brooks has on him is a better 3 point shot and he is a bit faster. Wheb Dragic improves his shooting then this wont even be a question. I can never see Brooks being a good point guard. Nate Robinson, Lou Williams, Booby Gibson are way better shoot first PGs then Brooks. Not to mention Jason Terry and Beaubois. Aaron Brooks will never be able to live up to his MIP season again. He is to the Rockets what Mike James was.
AB. His attitude has been in question, but I think there is a way better chance of him being a star-ish again, over Dragic. I like Dragic, seems to work hard/hustle/passion, it would be rad if he became a 15ppg player, but not sure he has it. Not that the guy gets a lot of playing time.
