I've been following this game for a while now, and closed beta is starting this weekend. Game is called Rift: Planes of Telara, recently shortened to just Rift. Not trying to be a WoW killer, but it has it's own unique differences and tries to stand on it's own ideas while fixing mistakes made by other games. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9uCsZDace6o?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9uCsZDace6o?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
Seems kind of interesting. The class system seems pretty cool. The races seem pretty goofy. I'll keep an eye out for reviews.
Just went live with pre-orders. This trailer is pretty bold. I love that the developers aren't scared to stand toe to toe with its competition. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BpXoNaiPfT8?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BpXoNaiPfT8?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
Anyone else seeing the Rift ads on this site?? I know I visit their website frequently but wondering just how specific the advertising on Clutchfans can be. Also, if you pre-order you get an automatic VIP key for the remaining 3 beta events. Next one up noon Tuesday the 25th thru noon Friday the 28th.
[Gaming] RIFT Anybody playing this since it came out? I've got a serious urge to play but don't really know why. Looks decent, but I'm through with MMO's after getting over a WoW addiction.
Watched roommate play beta, and came to realize all new mmo's will be just like WoW with some tweaks to make theirs "better". In the end, looks like a good ol time waster of a video game
I have an off and on WOW addiction, most of of the time a nicotine patch in the form of free to play mmo does seem to work (not always, I'm weak). anyways, here's the next best free to play mmo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FxtTUrnT8E&feature=related
I played for a few days in the open beta. It reminded me of Guild Wars with mindless running across the map to purple things to join everybody in whacking at rift creatures. Half the time I had no idea why the hell I was doing some of the things I was doing. I got kind of bored with it after a while and decided not to buy it. If you're thinking it's WoW, it's not. Like I said, it's somewhat like Guild Wars (when it was first released - I haven't played since)... it's very linear.
Missed this thread. I played through beta, but I did not order. I was never a fan. The game is less WoW and more Warhammer (which was basically wow anyway - not to get into the backstory of wow IP being warhammer, but the game definitly has a different feel than wow.) My biggest gripe is that I hated that combat & movement felt more like EQ2 than WoW. (This might be out of date now - from what I saw in the last beta I played) For some reason the devs refused to put in any dungeon finding software and they also never got around to putting in any antibot/afking options for their battlegrounds. It is like they looked at WoW from 2008 and copied those features, even though WoW has had many upgrades since then. I realize they didn't want to be WoW-lite. But the game is still really just WoW-lite with a change to talent trees. I too am an off/on WoW addict. Currently off.
I just picked this game up yesterday and I love it! I'm a former WoW playing that got bored of doing the same old raids and dungeons. It takes alot of things from the pages of WoW but adds alot too. I would highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys mmorpgs.
my coworker installed rift on his work computer today and the game did not look very good at all. the animation was not very smooth and it looked like a game that should have come out 4-5 years ago. the cut scenes are quite nice but the same itself has much room for improvement.
Hmm, a work computer probably has less horsepower than a home gaming desktop, so perhaps the graphics were turned down because of this?
*threads merged* One other thing I'd like to add is that while I thought the game seemed way too similar to Guild Wars and Warhammer with a bit of the usual WoW, the class system was pretty cool.
I work for a game developer. =P Sure his work computer wasn't a 1st class gaming rig but it had decent enough specs for the game to look good. The only MMO that I really played was City of Heroes/Villains and the graphics in that were better in my opinion.
