With the emergence of Kyle Lowry, I decided to look up the reason why Memphis traded him... Mike Conley. Lowry:13.2ppg/6.5apg/4.1rpg/1.4spg/PER:16.62/.554 TS% Conley:13.9ppg/6.7apg/3.0rpg/1.8spg/PER:16.34/.529 TS% Keep in mind that Conley is 1 1/2 years younger than Lowry. But on the flip side, Lowry's been beasting since the AB trade. It's pretty amazing how similar similar the stat lines are. And just how freaking remarkable it was that we got him for Rafer FREAKING Alston. What's also amazing is that Conley wasn't even a bad pick. Jeff Green, Yi Jianlian, Corey Brewer, and Brandon Wright went after him. Noah would've been the correct pick though, and one I'm guessing Morey would've taken in that situation, instead of drafting the same player they already have on the team. Is it really any question we have one of the best scouting departments in the NBA?
I love Conley's game...He is gonna be a great floor general...He'll make an all-star team or two before its all said and done...Lowery may be better right now but in a few years it wont be a contest
One thing you forgot to mention, even though you may just be focusing on the stats and the draft positions..... Conley - 5 years $45 million Lowry - 4 years $24 million Not to mention the rookie contract of Lowry was much cheaper than Conley, although Conley probably put up much better numbers, Conley may have the edge here. Taking all of that into consideration, I would probably take Lowry 90 times out of 100 if I had known all of this a while back while making the pick. Pugs
I'm glad somebody freaking knows Lowry was a first rounder. At some point Bill says Lowry was a second round draft choice every game..
I wonder what Memphis scouting department feels like these days. They pick out guys like Lowry, Love, Pau, etc only to have their idiot GM trade them away for nothing. Let's hope Thabeet can be added to that list.
Pretty soon we will look back at the Dragic trade and do a comparison of him and Nash... I mean Brooks
Not sure how you came to this conclusion. If the Rockets somehow got a #3 pick through the lottery this year, picked PF, trade Patterson and Scola to "make room" for said PF, and have said PF turn out to be just like Scola and/or Patterson, would that be a win-win? Let's not get carried away here. The Memphis staff also drafted Thabeet, Carroll(the pick from the Lowry trade ironically), Swift, and I'm sure numerous other busts that never made it to the Rockets at some point other another. They also took Henry over Patterson just this last draft. Forgot to mention that. Mainly because I thought Conley was still on his rookie contract. Good point.
Hey the reality is Lowry (pG) > Brooks (pG). We never had an opportunity to get Conley. Let's not dumb-down the Grizzley's - Conley has been solid from day 1 (as someone said he will continue to get better too). Lowry on the other hand has grown by leaps and bounds; when he was traded, he wasn't playing anywhere at this level - and by that I mean as a floor general. With Brooks there was no direction, though he consistently got good respectable numbers. However, with Lowry, there is a certain pace that stays consistent. Let's just see the facts. The Rockets are in the bottom of turnover list at #24. They are #3 in field goal attempts and makes. They are #5 in assists. In Free throw attempts they are #5 while they are # 4 in FT made. ----- to get numbers like that as a team, there has to be a strong floor general. Kudos to Lowry!!!!! Conclusion... They shoot a lot. They also get to the free throw line a lot. And they don't turnover the ball. You don't stumble over numbers like that. They handle the ball a lot (assists, shooting FG, Shooting FT, Shooting 3-PT) Ironically, what's been lacking has been defense. And that seems to be coming around of late
tie breaker who's the better defender? i would have to biasedly (real word?) choose lowry and who's the better 3 pt shoot?
I wonder if Memphis fans misspell Conley as much as we misspell Lowry. The dude aint 'flowery Lowery'. He's Kyle Lowry FOO.
