ABCNews is now reporting they found a .223 caliber rifle in the car.

As if the Nation of Islam (Farrakhan's group) could become even *less* popular, I read this morning that John Mohammed provided security for Louis Farrakhan during the Million Man March in DC a while back.

What do you mean? You don't think these guys are involved? Why can't they just tell us if they found the damn weapon? There also looking at other things like papers from Malvo's school to try and match it to the writing on the tarot card. They said the writing on the tarot card does not match the writing on one of the letters, so that could lead you to believe that there was in fact more than one person.

Yes! Time to get back to normal for a while. DC has been crazy this last year and there seems no end from Anthrax, 9/11, to sniper.

If these two are not the guys, the sniper is one bright mother.

I think the guy clearly wanted to get caught. He wouldn't have been leaving notes/hints behind, talking to the police, etc, if he didn't.

If this guy was not the sniper...then somebody would have gotten shot today to show the police that they had taken on a wild goose chase. They have their man...and I hope he fries.

too easy??? too easy??? are you kidding??? this has been going on for about a month now! eventually they were gonna catch him...they got a tip related to a crime committed in Alabama...as I understand it, that led to the discovery of the NJ license plate, which was then spotted in Maryland. There were numerous agencies working together, among states and among the federal govt as well. There was nothing easy about this at all.

Yes...but there is currently a moratorium on it by the governor. For the sniper they'd probably stay that moratorium. Virginia (where the sniper hit a couple of times) has the death penalty.

I guarantee you that Alabama has it as well...remember he admits to killing that woman in Alabama. He admitted it to scare the cops.

...and to further bolster the case in Alabama -- he allegedly committed murder and armed robbery simultaneously, a combination of crimes that can net you the death penalty.

I say the son gets executed as well. Even if he were an unwilling participant kept hostage by his father, then he could have sneaked out one night when dad was asleep to call authorities or done something. He didn't do jack so... .

he was certainly an accomplice...and if he was part of the robbery of the liquor store, then he's guilty of felony-murder. i think it's more likely he was taking some of these shots anyway, though.

You beat me to it by 6 minutes. :)

Since he is 17...he will likely be tried as an adult in most states.

For those of you who claim that we need more gun laws and that the claims that we don't enforce our gun laws are ludicrous--

John Mohammad was discharged from the army...NOT an honorable discharge. As a result, under the law, he should not have been in possession of a firearm. In other words...he had his guns ILLEGALLY. Had the cops in Tacoma prosecuted him under the gun laws he wouldn't have been on the streets to commit these crimes. That should be read as saying that more gun laws wouldn't have helped since the existing ones prohibited him from having a gun.
