I'm not talking about P orn here ;)

Instead im talking about the popular sites like Googe, Facebook,Wikipedia ,Yahoo, Youtube ,heck even Clutchfans lol. If they started charging you $$$ , would you still use the website or move on to free ones.

Let's make it about 5 $ /monthly charge for any of these websites , would you still enjoy these websites.

I would not mind paying, but if I pay I do not want to see advertising.

Websites that need money to offset costs often do much better with a one time "membership" fee over a monthly fee. Somethingawful.com forums comes to mind.

I'm sure someone would just figure out how to jailbreak the internet, and then I would just use that. :)

I pay for Wiki and Cluthfans already.

I might pay for Google and Yahoo sports but to be honest I would likely try other sites first.

Once they start charging, those sites will suck anyway. Facebook will be done, YouTube, and Yahoo as well.

Only site I would pay for is Wikipedia because there is nothing on the internet that compares to the vastness of it.

Really depends on the site. Like Realist noted, Facebook would instantly be worthless if that happened - I'm not paying to keep up with the 5 to 10% of my friends that stuck it out.

Clutch, on the other hand, would benefit GREATLY from weeding out the mass hordes of noobs that show up, overrun the GARM, and are gone before the year is out. Make it free to lurk or maybe make free accounts have a one post/24 hr limit and no thread privileges.

ESPN tested the waters with insider and got smacked back to reality. I know there's another push to do so, but I expect it to go just as badly. In the era of text/twitter, you can't keep a lid on news, and there's always someone out there undercutting you for free.

    would not pay for fb

would pay for twitter if it was like 5-10 bucks for year - i get all my news and sports info from twitter

would pay for CF, google, cnn

assuming that the top 10 most visited websites that start to charge and not like every single website on the internet then even google would be useless because i can run a search but then have to pay to check out the website results

I think the ads pay the uploader some amount so I'm all for it.
