How about this one? Diclaimer that I'm obviously not saying PP will have such a career. But similarity in terms of "type of player". Player K: Drafted 13th Patterson: Drafted 14th Player K: 6-9, 250lbs Patterson: 6-9, 235lbs(but plays in an era where you don't need to be as big) Player K: True Power Forward. Played on both offensive and defensive side of the ball. Smart player who played to his strengths. One of the best finishers in the game. Patterson. True Power Forward. Looks like he can play both offense and defense. Smart player who plays to his strengths. Is looking like a very capable finisher. Player K: An a-hole on the court, plays dirty, was a fake tough guy played a despicable brand of basketball. Patterson: Well, not all comparisons can be perfect. People who have figured out who Player K is can understand why he's in spoilers Spoiler
Yea this is the best comparison. Karl Malone! Makes me wonder what PP can be with his great work ethic.
I think Boozer with slightly better D is where Pat Pat will end up. Malone's size was a big deal. He would go to the basket with his knees out, and most players didn't want any piece of that.
Malone's size was more a product of that era, when size generally matter more. Besides, it's not like Patterson can't bulk up. The reason I use Malone is because he actually did play very good defense, albeit the dirty kind Sloan preaches to all his thugs. Whereas most of the other comparisons tend to be smallish bigs that don't play D. Also, I've always found Malone to be the methodical type of player, who worked on his strengths and kept his body in shape as one of the most durable NBA players. The the gay-Jazz stuff aside, his game is something I feel Patterson can mirror.
I can't compare a 1st year rookie to a HOF player. I can happily compare him to his peers and players within a realistic reach of his abilities but KM would be VERY BEST case scenario...I'll wait on that until he makes his 1st all-star team.
