With Langhi apparently having the potential for being the answer at the SF spot offensively, it seems like there is a very strong team out there offensively with Francis, Mobley, Langhi, K. Thomas, Hakeem (if he's healthy). For the defense, though, there is not much more than Shandon Anderson and Cato (and Hakeem). I think that it would be great to have someone else who dives for loose balls, gets blocks and steals and Outlaw would perfectly fit that description. Although he cannot shoot free throws, his fg %, his blocks and steals are amazing. Also, he is a pretty good rebounder. I think he would be a very valuable addition and if there is any way to get him, I would do it. Then you could play PG Mobley, SG S. Anderson, SF Outlaw PF Cato C Hakeem when you really need to stop the opposing team and you could play PG Francis SG Mobley SF Langhi PF Thomas C Hakeem (Collier?) when you need offensive firepower. ------------------
thats what i have been saying but people dont seem to agree.. I think it would be a really great move...be ready for the people to tear you up on this as they are all experts... ------------------ i am rather like a mosquito in a nudist camp..i know what i ought to do but i don't know where to begin...
I am a big fan of Bo Outlaw as well, as long as the Rockets are in a running mode. He provides GREAT weak side shot blocking, and can fill the lane on the break. In a half court set, Outlaw could be a liability because his man can lay off him and play the driving lanes. In short, if he comes cheap, he is worth it- but I don't think he will come cheaply. ------------------
I agree with RocketExpert. If he were to come at a small price (2.25 exception), I'd do it in a heartbeat, but more likely he'd come of the cost of the trade exception plus more, and then we can't get Rashard Lewis or any other 01 free agent, who could be a bigger piece of the puzzle than Outlaw. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
He doesn't want to come. F@#k him and his 49% FT shooting. ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning? - Dubyah in Florence, SC. 01/11/2000
I would love to have Bo Outlaw on this team for the intangibles and dirty work he provides. He has long arms and plays tough aggressive defense which can help trigger the fast break. He can provide a defensive lift at both forward spots, and the Rockets can surround him with enough shooters/scorers to make up for offensive liabilities. I found this quote on NBAtalk regarding an Outlaw trade to Houston that irked me a bit, "However, sources have told NBAtalk that Outlaw has already rejected the trade at least once this month." Also, if the Rockets were to commit 4.5 mil to Outlaw, they could still ink Rashard Lewis in '01 as long as they dump Walt Williams salary. Imagine a potential team like this.... Cato/Washington Collier/Outlaw/KT Lewis/Langhi Anderson/Mobley Francis/Norris ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
MManal, do you really think Collier is better than Outlaw is better than KT? I realize that Collier is injured and may have a better base with which to build on than KT, I am just curious to see your reasoning. KT has shown alot of hustle this week. I watched him floor Tractor and sit Marcus Fizer down today too. ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning? - Dubyah in Florence, SC. 01/11/2000
Achebe, the reason I put Collier ahead of Outlaw is b/c I figured Collier's offense and Cato's defense would mix well. That way Bo could come off the bench and provide a spark. However, that could all be rotated. Kenny Thomas in the games I saw, I was not at all happy with. The guy was as soft as kleenex on defense, yeeeshhhh. Its amazing to me that people are saying so many positive things about him. Tractor plowed straight through him. KT had no prayer of holding his position against Traylor. Tractor was getting position real close to the hoop and was getting very easy scores. Tractor finished with something like 21 pts 13 rebs. I was happy with Washington's defense b/c he held his ground really well against Traylor, but Thomas got man handled imho. I really feel that Jason Collier is going to be a better long term player than KT. I am still very annoyed that Collier did not get the ball in the post enough this wk to show what he can do. He is A LOT better than what he showed. KT looked good at times on offense, but when the defense wised up, he slowed down a lot. After the first quarter or so in the Utah game, the Jazz completely took away his spin move to the paint so KT resorted to the perimeter more and more. I wasnt very high on his game last yr and still dont see much improvement. When he plays bigger players and tries to go into the paint down low for a high pct score, he is going to get packed and hard b/c he is just too short. KT will have to resort to his perimeter game which has been very inconsistent to this point. Did he look any better against Marcus Fizer? B/c Traylor absolutely man handled him. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net [This message has been edited by MManal (edited July 28, 2000).]
I think right now the difference in Washington and KT's defense is that Washington was explicitly told 2 years ago to go to Italy and get stronger. Even though both players give up 45 or more lbs. to Traylor (god he's enormous) I believe KT's baby fat is the difference in strength. I agree that T. W.'s defense is far superior... if there were some way to combine KT's passing (he threw a couple of bullets in transition to Collier and they slipped out of his hands or bounced off of his gut before he could catch them) and inside game to Washington's blocking and jumping ability (I believe that KT is the better rebounder) then you'd have the ideal power forward. Comparisons wouldn't do it justice, but it would be a really pretty sight. ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning? - Dubyah in Florence, SC. 01/11/2000
http://www.nba.com/news/SPL_000727.html NBA PROS 116 - PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS 106 ...Bo Outlaw logged a quadruple-double (19 points, 14 rebounds, 18 assists and 10 blocks)... I bet he also had more than 5 steals . ------------------
Bo would be an asset. I've always admired his hustle. Since the Rocks will need time to be contenders, I can't blame him for wanting to stay put and/or have a chance at the NBA-championship. Go Cougs ------------------ "Badges? We don't have to show you any badges. We don't need no stinkin badges!!"
I do not think that he would have a better chance to get a ring in Orlando than in Houston. How many times did Grant Hill get his team past the first round in the playoffs? Bo should come home! He is exactly the player the Rockets need. Also a totally underrated passer. ------------------
Bo is good scrub material. If he actually developed a consistent jumpshot and decent FT shooting, he might actually be worth going after. Det, how would Bo have a better chance in Houston? At least Grant and McGreedy have made it to the playoffs. ------------------ I am so exasperated that I could expectorate.
Grant and McGrady play the same position imo (SF). And Bo Outlaw also plays the same position (SF/PF), so why have him there. Orlando doesn't have a real C. Maybe we can give them Collier and Massenburg for Bo? Who cares if Bo's points are "garbage" points. That's exactly what we need, somebody who gets you these "garbage points". ------------------ Get Bo!
Yeah, but the Rockets already have a starter who heavily relies on garbage points. Then there is Rogers and Pig. McGreedy will probably play most of his minutes at the 2, like he did in Toronto. Bo would get leftover minutes at SF and at PF in Orlando, but I digress. You stated that Outlaw had a better shot at a ring in Houston rather than Orlando. That remains to be seen. And Doleac is a real center, as is Amachi(sp?). ------------------ I am so exasperated that I could expectorate.
Since we signed Collier, he can't be traded until December. Orlando has a better chance of getting to the Finals from the East, than we do from the West. Atleast for the next couple of years.
I think Outlaw realized that they had something special there in Orlando with Doc Rivers running the show. That team was truly that -- a team. Now, with the prospects of the signings of McGrady and Hill, and the drafting of Miller, they are instantly contenders. He clearly wants to win, even if it means a cut down on his playing time. Crisco, I don't see why your so down on Bo. Sure, he a'int nothing special on offense, but a defensive-challenged team like the Rocks desperatley need a player of his likeing. Certainly, he is not the answer to all the Rocks problems, but his blue-collar like work ethic and endless energy is exactly the type of player Rudy T, or any other coach for that matter, craves. As for money, I have no idea what he wants, but I am positive its nothing that will put a big dent on our salary cap. It may be possible to deal our 4.5 million exception to the Magic in return for him. I believe he is looking at other factors, such as a home for his family, winning, and a solid organization. All of which play to the Rockets favour. Too bad Orlando has those same advantages. Let's hope the latest rumours of him being traded to Miami along with Mercer for PJ Brown are'nt true. I would also love to see PJ in the Rockets jammies.
