That's exactly where I was going in this thread. I thought the trade for Lowry signaled surrender at the time. The whole TMac thing... I also thought that Morey was going "against the grain" in that a Yao-centric team (or Dream, Shaq, DW for that matter) needed guards that could drill 3's. What upsets me most about AB breaking down and getting traded is that it seems Adelman lost a guy he wanted, and he felt AB's positives far out-weighed his negatives on a good defensive team. But I said last year, that even if AB was throwing in 30 ppg, it was a mirage. I didn't think Brooks improved (glad he got MIP) and never thought he improved his team. I'll always wonder about AB's mindset and I wish him well as I'll eat crow.
Yup. Somebody brought up a breakdown in their shooting that showed how Martin was actually a pretty poor 3pt shooter in isolation, while in transition his % are way up. Meanwhile Lowry was actually the much more versatile 3pt shooter, with even %s across the board in spot up, iso, p&r. What I am curious about is his %s in those last second shots. THAT you can't teach. Or improve upon I don't think. Born Clutch.
My list is pretty similar, though I'd probably take Wall over Lowry and Lowry over Curry (not that impressed with him, PG wise).
As Rocket fans Lowry is by far the biggest bright spot this season. And for the first time going into the offseason knowing he will be the starter next year, I can't wait to see his improvements. Even as a big fan of his I always saw him as a 13 and 6 guy given the opportunity. Someone who would effected the game much more than his numbers would tell. But now... I think he has a real chance at becoming 18 and 8, which would make him a legit allstar candidate- something I didn't think was likely. But enough of that. We are derailing the thread with all this Lowry nut-hugging. Back on topic. Leebigez, show yourself! I have some decomposed crow here that has been sitting for 2 years!!!!
For the record, here is my thread posted on 8/10/2010: This is essentially the same argument Clutch made just a few days ago that Lowry could possibly be traded to bring us in a superstar. I was making suggestions that Iggy with his defense and his playmaking could essentially be our Lowry. My thought was that one of the point guards would eventually be traded and since Lowry had just gotten paid and Philly is his hometown, I speculated on a possible trade involving him. Just for the record, my favorite Rockets players as of right now are Lowry, Scola, and Hayes.....with Hayes and Lowry actually being my absolute favorites. And if you go search my posts about Lowry, I was posting a couple years before we acquired him that I really wanted him. When we traded for him, I was very happy and when he was playing behind and alongside Brooks, I stated very plainly over and over that he was the better player. However, when we acquired Lee, I also posted another thread asking how many of you felt he could play the point. I still feel like Lee could develop into a point guard.............and I still feel like Lowry is a candidate to be traded. I still love Lowry and if we don't trade him, I'll be okay with that...unless we turn down a trade for DWill, or CPaul to keep him. There is only one thing I'm really worried about in Lowry and that is his weight. He is so chunky and he's got a tendacy to put on weight easy. Right now, it's not a problem and it's to his benefit. But in a couple years, if he adds another few lbs and gets a little more mileage on his knee joints, I am worried about him breaking down and then losing significant pieces of his game. He was always a tougher defensive player and great drawing fouls - but to say he was a better offensive player than brooks back then is a real joke. He's improved tremendously on that end, but i'd still say Brooks is the better offensive player talent wise - he just has so much quickness. But clearly Lowry is the better overall player now. Good for him.
I don't know about that. Brooks is the better SCORER, but I'd say Lowry's ability to run an offense makes him the better offensive player. Brooks really lags behind in that regard.
I don't disagree that Lowry is a better point guard, but Brooks is still a better offensive player. I am talking scoring. The role of a point guard is different on a lot of teams and depends on that role. I think Brooks has better ball handling and passing skills to be honest, but Lowry is just able to take contact a lot better and makes better decisions. A year ago Brooks was the better pg, but today it's Lowry. Still, brooks really is more of a sg in a pg's body anyway.
But yet he made his team worse on offense when he was the court. Too bad, so sad. I guess if you want to put a 'better offensive player" on the court you have to be prepared to suck it up and score less.
Switch Williams and Westbrook and move Wall to 7th, Nash to 8th and Curry to 10th and you got my list.
Bingo. This isn't about Lowry/Brooks, it's the general assholish nature of the folks putting down Lowry and his possible improvement with playing time. Thankfully, Choujie and Brooksball and many others stayed classy and logical for the most part. The threads do not lie, It ALWAYS turned into "You have low basketball IQ". Interesting... Speaking of IQ, Do you guys really think that Lowry just all of a sudden became a good shooter? This is a combination of YEARS of work in the gym, to go with the added confidence of being a full time starter, which many of us predicted.
I rarely ever post here but when I watch the Rockets it isn't hard to tell that although Brooks might be the better scorer and at a glance the better player, Lowry easily improves the way the team plays far more than Brooks ever did. Lowry makes everyone around him better and improves the team in a lot of different areas that go unnoticed by most people, the only thing Brooks did well was score. Not to say Brooks was selfish but as a PG when your first priority is scoring its detrimental to the team. Some PGs are good enough to do it all, but Brooks isn't one of those PGs.
