Full response: http://thequad.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/16/grant-hills-response-to-jalen-rose/ It was a sad and somewhat pathetic turn of events, therefore, to see friends narrating this interesting documentary about their moment in time and calling me a b**** and worse, calling all black players at Duke “Uncle Toms” and, to some degree, disparaging my parents for their education, work ethic and commitment to each other and to me. I should have guessed there was something regrettable in the documentary when I received a Twitter apology from Jalen before its premiere. I am aware Jalen has gone to some length to explain his remarks about my family in numerous interviews, so I believe he has some admiration for them....
That was a classy reply. It's nice to read some of the more intelligent pieces from NBA players. I would love to see what Reggie Evans could write ha ha!
I'm no fan of Duke and their kin, but I've always had a lot of respect for guys like Grant Hill and Shane Battier because they've had to deal with a lot of the prejudices associated with that particular program, and they've always responded with class.
yeah dawg. He should have be kept it reelz and shiat. told dem punkz to get off his jock and quit hatin... u no wut i sayin?
Yeah it was classy. But I respect Jalen for having the balls to just say what he felt when he was an 18 year old. He made it clear in the documentary that he was very emotionally troubled as a teen.
It's not like Rose was disparaging Hill's upbringing from his present-day persona. In my view, Rose was speaking from the perspective of an urban kid who grew up in the ghetto and had very little. It was an honest commentary, and isn't that what we're looking for with these documentaries - honesty? Are we seriously blind to the fact that most blacks who were raised in the ghetto probably feel that way about wealthy blacks? Do we not want Rose to be honest in his own documentary?
I'm saying It sounded like a something a politician would right. Duke players just don't explode emotionally. Not saying It's a bad thing but what does Hill "really" think?
Although I respect Jalen Rose's opinion, and understand where he's coming from as a kid who didn't have the priviledges in the world growing up, he should have never directed the "Uncle Tom" insult at the players. I applaud Grant Hill for standing up for players like himself, Elton Brand, Billy King, and Shane Battier who are being stereotyped and insulted in part of people like Rose's problem with the University's recruiting habits. This issue is apparent in almost every Ivy league school, not just Duke.
Speaking of Grant Hill, he's 38 years old and averaging 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists a game. After all of those injuries... He's an inspiration.
Jalen said what he said and he man up to it. Hill took the high road and had a great response to the comments made by Jalen. I just hated Jalen when he under cut Elie which cause Elie to break his wrist.
