I would at least give the first season of Deadwood a chance, it was just fantastic. I really disliked the 2nd season though, didn't care much for the story. The female alchoholic chick fills me up with rage everytime she is on screen, almost ruins the show sometimes for me.
re: Deadwood -- I was under the impression that, that was how they talked back then. I mean they were in a settlement with no true law enforcement and the owners of the casinos/w**** houses running the town. I'd fight your way through at least season 1 -- I really enjoyed it, I just didn't like feeling like it had an abrupt ending. The alcoholic chic was pretty annoying though.. I thought I'd like her after the first few episodes, but she's just a drunk coward. re: Mad Men -- I think I've seen the first two seasons of Mad Men.. might have even watched season three, I can't remember. I was forcing myself to watch them because everyone talked about how good it was, but I couldn't ever get into it. I never found myself staying up late just to watch another episode like I did with The wire, Shield, Deadwood, etc.
I understand that criticism, it started off very slow and deliberate but did you end up watching the whole season? The pace picked up toward the end and the story got pretty interesting, although the finale was just okay. I watch it as more of drama than an action show.
One word: Deadwood. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/RfMSxf6P_AM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> (One NSFW word at the end)
I love the big bang theory, for me its an amazing show. Also I like "House" a lot The Sopranos is really good. Also I recommend Bones, very Interesting show. I like watching NCIS too. The Middle is weird, and not the best, but it can entertain you for a while.
^ "The Middle" ABSOLUTELY looks like a knock-off of "Malcom in the Middle"...and not just because of the name. ...they even have the puny, weird little brother. Nobody holds a candle to Dewey. Nobody.
I did, but I admit I wasn't the most attentive viewer. There were several times where I wasn't quite sure what was going on because I wasn't paying attention in an earlier part. I know a lot of people here absolutely loved it, but I just never bought in. I do like your Flight of the Conchords mention though -- is that returning for a third season? The first season was using a lot of material from their stand up, so I wondered how long they could go on.
Haha yeah, the first few seasons were solid for a cartoon (I don't watch a lot of them). If you're watching Archer, does that mean you've seen Frisky Dingo? I also liked that one.
Spartacus: Blood and Sand Fringe Battlestar Galactica It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Crub Your Enthusiasm
Unfortunately no. HBO wanted to make another season but Jermaine and Brent were disinterested in continuing. I know Jermaine was focused on acting in movies.
This doesn't start until April....but looks very interesting. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/BpJYNVhGf1s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
IMO there are two shows that stands far and away above anything else, this past decade. (aside from Band of Brothers since thats a miniseries) 1. Mad Men - the best show on television the past few years, though its not for everyone. Its driven not by plot or action but by a deep and encompassing study of its characters. People who love the show, love it for the directing, acting, writing, the mood, setting and nolstagia it evokes. And while it may not be good for ratings, its the closest thing to reading a great novel that tv can offer. 2. The Wire - one of the best shows ever, and like mad men, may not be for everyone. Though it is very much plot driven with some action, at its core, the wire is a study of its characters and their environment. Its a fantastic show, but may be too gritty, depressing and urban for some. Good but fell short of great Battlestar Galactica - the first two season were absolutely fantastic and in terms of television series which dealt with an ongoing plotline, utterly and completely blew LOST out of the waters... especially in terms of continuity and writing. IMO the show/story spiraled someone towards the end and i found myself hating the ending (not as bad as lost tho). Firefly - sadly only one short season, but at least we got a movie to wrapped it up with. Sopranos - a show with great writing, characters and directing, but sadly not a single character I can care about nor empathize with nor root for. I love the Godfather 1 and 2 because i loved the characters Pacino and Deniro created. The Sopranos while greatly executed simply did not make me care one way or the other. Deadwood - loved the setting, didnt mind the language and apart from the drunk lady, had interesting characters. Olyphant was great, but unfortunately it ended on an abrupt and sour note. Just when the story was getting somewhere. Rome - bloody, violent, with decent writing, acting and production value. Friday Night Lights - well written show about HS football, teenagers, and a nice portrayal of married couple, living in texas. Guilty pleasures Spartacuz big bang theory Chuck (first 2 seasons only then progressively worst) the shield (first 2 seasons only then progressively worst)
I just started watching this over the past couple weeks and I agree. The first 2 seasons are flawlessly written with tons of depth both in the plots and the character. Season 3 got progressively unrealistic and season 4 is becoming annoying. Many characters are losing credibility and human interaction/tendencies (which were once the strong point of the show) are now completely off the map with cliches and ignorance. As for Spartacus, that shouldn't be a "guilty" pleasure, it has some of the most brilliantly written dialogue I have ever seen on tv and amazingly directed action scenes. It's become my favorite show on Tv.
