Are parents hero's? Bus driver's? A nanny?.. A teacher is not per se a hero ... but they do have amazing job security, regardless of how lazy or indifferent they may be or wonderful and hard working... Some teachers deserve to be disrespected...indeed many deserve to be fired. With all due respect, you do not know what you are talking about... in a number of places an associate degree is sufficient to substitute.... education is a notoriously easy degree.. It has EVERYTHING to do with you being a teacher... your perspective is different, and that is fine... I respect your opinion.... but if it comes to a vote, I will not support a primary education teacher getting 88K a year. What is lost in all of this is that the state is partially responsible... they gave them the salary... When people come in and say teachers don't deserve their fat 5 figure salary, that is less than those in the private sector, and that any moron could be a teacher, then I'm not a-hole because I call them out for being unsupportive and unappreciative of educators. You argue like the typical Republican. You start throwing crap around, acting like facts aren't facts, and when you and the folks that agreed with get called on it, you whine, cry, b**** and moan, about being called hateful. Sorry, I kept my posts about the facts at hand, and was making fun of the stupid idea that teachers are living the high life because of their ENORMOUS salaries.
i'm sure you're the same kind of person who thinks that the protesters are being paid as well. if you just walked around the capital building you would find a lot of people from in state (i'd say over 90%) and many who would be willing to sign it as well.
I didn't say a teacher was a hero, but if you think their job isn't important than you should guess again about the significance of education in this country. I'm not sure of the practices in the whole nation, but it isn't as hard to get fired as people in this thread are making it out to be. I agree there are some bad teachers. That isn't a reason to make blanket statements about teachers as a whole which is what was done here. Also for the record teachers don't make 88K a year in salary. They make that much a year in salary and health insurance and pension benefits. It's less than what people with the same education make in the private sector. I mentioned before about requirements being different in different places. Maybe somewhere people could be a sub with an associates degree. But to act like it's true across the board, because it's true in some place isn't accurate. Again if teachers have it so easy, and the job is not tough, and the pay is so great why don't you become a teacher. There must be some reason why the average length of a teaching career is just 5 years. Maybe they just feel guilty getting such a huge salary for doing such an easy job, that any moron with a bachelor's degree could do. That must be it.
Because I do not have a passion for teaching. There must be some reason why the average length of a teaching career is just 5 years. Maybe they just feel guilty getting such a huge salary for doing such an easy job, that any moron with a bachelor's degree could do. That must be it.
The reason the average is only 5 years is that it is often a stop gap career. Many people can't get into the field they want, so they become a teacher until they can do what they want to. I have had some former teachers tell me they quit because they hated the culture of the teaching profession, the lack of freedom they had and the numerous teachers that showed up for a pay check only.
100,000 HISD teachers are about to find out how hard it is to be fired. And yes, I know the standard complaint is that it's hard to fire teachers "for cause." The alternative is lower certification standards to prevent labor shortages. That's all moot now, as our representatives in government have decided that tax cuts for the super wealthy are a higher priority than manageable class sizes in our public schools. So what happens next? Public school performance will continue to decline and teachers will continue to serve as a convenient scapegoat. Voucher programs will be promoted as the solution, funneling more money out of the public system. When the true public schools are gone, people will actually start examining the poor performance of charter schools. The cynical rhetoric being heaped on teachers and public schools today will form the basis of the new conventional wisdom, and education will once again be the exclusive privilege of the wealthy.
Interesting that it would be hard to fire someone who had a lack of freedom in their occupation... I know quite a few jaded teachers, but I have yet to meet one that "showed up for a pay check [sic] only." I'm sure they exist somewhere, but you would have to be highly detached or heavily medicated to put up with the heaps of **** many public school educators deal with on a daily basis to be doing it for the money, even $80k+ (where did you get that number, by the way?).
Every teacher I know does it only for the $, and they hate the job. A friend of mine even got a tattoo that says "six years" - the length she taught government school before finding a way out.
This is the part I want to single out. The numbers I have seen are that WI teachers average $51,000 with Fox commentators going nuts on the $76,000 for salary with benefits. Where is your $88,000 number coming from?
Hmm... now she does cosmetic tattooing for cancer patients. It's much more productive than being a glorified babysitter for the state, you dip**** moron liberal.
I'm sure she's just doing it for the money. For the sake of the cancer patients I'm hoping she's a better tattoo artist than she was a teacher.
In some cases it is. The same lack of logic would be apparent. I got an engineering degree in a five year program as a matter of fact. My brother got a degree in Social Studies and a teaching credential at the same University. I can tell you that my education was a lot tougher than his. There would be no sense in comparing them just because they are scheduled to take the same amount of time. Having a masters is not a requirement to be a public school teacher. In California there is a small pay bump for having a masters. I don't know if the same is true in Texas. Also, most public school teachers have degrees in easy subjects and masters in the same (one or both of these can be education as well). There is no reason to compare them to people with more difficult educations. The amount of time spent working outside of the classroom varies from teacher to teacher. I have several in my family to witness that firsthand. It is a matter of opinion whether or not teachers are underpaid, but my point is that comparing them to all people with postgrad education to make the argument that they are underpaid is nonsense. Again, the job most similar to public school teacher is private school teacher. Compared to private school teachers, the public school teachers are overpaid.
Forget to take the meds? You've done nothing but shout insults and talk about your ignorant friends. Not only do they sound like jerks, they are also idiots if the job they chose for the money was teaching. There are countless other jobs that pay better money. They should have done one of those jobs just for the money. I really feel sorry for the kids your friends cheated out of their potential education. I'm glad that at least one of them does something that may bring joy to lives of cancer patients even if it isn't beneficial to society as a whole.
So exactly how are my friends who worked as government teachers ignorant about government teaching? Only dumbass liberals stay in the job and think that they are "owed" something. Fortunately, the sick, horrid disease of liberal entitlement is in the process of being cured. Teaching is a job, most people take jobs for money. They also might actually think it will be a decent, satisfying job... before they come face to face with the reality that it has become - locked doors, Zero Tolerance, and stupid rules like "If a teacher assigns detention, he or she is responsible for contacting the parent and giving at least 24 hours notice." http://www.reverems.org/pages.english/student_policies_and_procedures.php The government monopoly system, like liberalism itself, is a steaming pile of crap and will hopefully soon be extinct. It is what is screwing everyone. Why teachers quit (GLORIFIED BABYSITTERS) http://www.joannejacobs.com/2007/04/why-teachers-quit-2/ "That last year, I had enough of it,” said Goyne. “The biggest skill you’re applying is crowd control. You’re not really having a say in the curriculum or what goes into it.” “They’re almost saying ‘you couldn’t pay me enough to stay at this school,’” (study author Ken) Futernick said. Interestingly enough, teachers surveyed who stayed in the field and felt supported at their campus cited their compensation as adequate, the study says. Those who left tough schools said they would not come back even if they earned more money, often known as combat pay. THANK GOD those unions are being crushed. It is a real blessing from The Lord.
