Consider the fact that the Old Testament covered a span of about 4000 years and the New Testament less than 100. Jesus' "ministry" only lasted 3 years. The Apostle Paul wrote a good portion of the New Testament in the following 30 + years after Jesus was crucified. John wrote Revelation 60+ years after Jesus was crucified. It is hard to say God changed when comparing the two parts of the Bible. What did change is that Jesus died for our sins and rose on the third day. Man was no longer bound by the laws of Moses and the Holy Spirit was unleashed on the Earth. The only only thing you have to do to go to heaven is ask Jesus to come into your heart and life. As Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
I still don't understand what that has to do with Creation or Evolution. Why is accepting Jesus' love contingent upon whether you accept the Biblical account of creation? Considering you say that after Jesus man was free of laws of the Old Testament then why should its account(s) then necessarily hold sway over other explanations?
Unless there's an absolute definition of the scripture, I have to say it's still subjective enough to be compatible with evolution. From your source, Genesis 1: 20-22: Such as my suggestion before, the dinosaurs could be the "winged fowl." 20 says the fowls also flew but consider the wording. "Let" doesn't eliminate the possibility the fowls walked first. On the other hand, Genesis 24-25 is relatively specific to the creatures it describes, Quite suggestive of mammalian life.
???????? Of course mankind has free will. Everyone is free to decide whether they accept Jesus. The whole gospel of Jesus has the underlying theme that to go to heaven a person must chose to believe that Jesus is the son of God and that he died on a cross for our sins then rose on the third day. If God already knew who was going to heaven then why would he send Jesus. God is omnipotent however he let's mankind make their on free choices. The people who chose Jesus go to heaven, those who don't will end up in a MUCH MUCH worse place.
Pictures someone took from a creationist museum: http://gallery.me.com/ckressbac#100017 Taken from: http://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/comments/g3p5b/my_trip_to_the_creation_museum/ Creepy. Especially this one.
So god is omnipotent, but not omniscient? How does that work? Doesn't sound very all-powerful and all-knowing to me. Also, rocketsjudoka asked about the new testament negating the old (paraphrasing) and whether or not that means the old holds no sway any longer. Could you please answer that? Do you get to pick and choose what you believe from the old testament?
Lol. Man, people keep wanting to toy with the parameters of creation theory... trying to litigate over word minutia... but at the end of the day, this is what it boils down to.
What are your plans in heaven once/if you get there? is it like Sheen-esque partying or blissful pastoral harp playing?
Oh crap I'm a college underclassmen for all eternity, condemned to drink skunked Milwaukees Best, wearing hiking boots, a dirty flannel, old jeans and listen to Ace of Base in a dank basement I may have to pass.
No it's not. God created "all the creeping things of the ground" on Day 6, which would preclude the existence of flying things before that date according to the evolutionary timeline.
I guess Matthew 5:17-20 are out: [rquoter]Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.[/rquoter]
