Really? The refs don't have it for the rockets. Your just a typical NBA fan who thinks the refs are against their team.
with the exception for this game: <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WL3DYNTwijw?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WL3DYNTwijw?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>
i dont know to what extent the marquee teams have had a history of horrible calls, but i know in my 20 years of being a rockets fan, the majority of the catastrophically bad calls i have witnessed have gone against the rockets, not for them. off the top of my head: - the david robinson tip-in in 92 or 93 that clearly came after the buzzer. - the game in utah where the clock didn't start for like ten seconds and the refs let them play while gene and jim were screaming obscenities. thankfully utah did not score or the rockets would have lost due to that incompetence. - game 6 in utah in 1996 where karl malone essentially tackled barkley (i think it was him anyway) to clear stockton for the game winner that sent utah to the finals versus chicago. - the entire rockets vs. mavs series in 2005, especially the game where finley or stackhouse or whoever it was was standing out of bounds and caused the turnover that sealed the mavs win. i can't really remember a singular terrible call at a critical time that has helped the rockets win actually. even in the orlando series, the rockets actually fouled nick anderson, he just missed the FTs. maybe its just that i remember the painful moments more than the positive ones, but i'm curious when the rockets have ever won a game or series and had the benefit of exceptionally bad officiating at critical moments.
I just think blaming the refs is excuses for losers. championship teams play past refs mistakes. Refs make mistake all the time but for some reason rockets fans think they only make those mistakes against the rockets. There is a reason rockets fans are labeled Whiners of the league, I mean just look at the similar threads at the bottom.
i can make things up too. watch. your point is supported by a lot of well documented evidence which makes it entirely bulletproof and essentially factual. see?
So losing and not blaming the refs is a winner? The rockets have never been gifted by the refs like the lakers have. When the rockets won the championships we were all complaining about it and still won. Does that make us losers even though we won? So GlenRice you think the rockets get all the calls the lakers get right? And the sad part is Phil Jackson still complains about it every year like clockwork. So I guess Phil Jackson is a loser too with those 27 rings. Are you sure you are not a loser because you don't complain? The NBA has a real problem with how their games are called and this is not the first second or 68th time it's come up. They even had a ref fixing games. The 2002 WC game 6 was a joke, game 7 of the finals last year was a joke and I'm not a celts or kings fan.. and I 'm starting to think you are joke too.
You can draw whatever conclusions you want with respect to how it affected the outcome of the game...I'll leave that to you... but there is no denying the officiating in that game was flat-out awful from start to finish.
I'm like 95% on the side that says never blame your losses on the ref. But this morning I woke up and couldn't help but feel we got the short end of the stick last night. We were out playing the Spurs in every way. And every time we touched them they got a call and they blatantly fouled us and we got nothing. Every call went there way. It could just be coincidence but this morning my gut doesn't feel that way.
This is the Houston Rockets. Officiating is often against us. Nothing new. We just need to make sure we are in a position where bad officiating won't affect our win.
It has become a pretty noticeable and outright blatant pattern. I wonder why that is? Maybe just habits? Maybe refs have bad habits vs Rockets teams? I dont know but it is obvious now. Thats true never has their ever been a n important game where we had that lucky call go for us. Its always without fail against the Rockets and most of the time in the fourth quarter when the game is bein deciding. Weird occurrence I know. Just have to live with it.
Without reading the replies I'll just say this.... Win the game comfortably and dont let the refs be a factor.
I'm just happy to get some support here. I was watching with some friends (there were fans of both teams) and was lying on the ground. When they called that foul on Lee over Duncan I jumped up and started ranting about how Duncan just keeled over with barely a touch. They just kind of sat there without saying anything.
Whenever Joey C. is officiating a Rockets game, I pencil it in as a loss. I'm at work now, so I can't look, but I would love to see a W/L analysis going back a few years in games which he refs for us. Also, particular ref/player relationships have always intrigued me and even affected superstars (cf. Joey C. vs Tim Duncan). Anyone else here think Violet Palmer had a noticeable vendetta for Tracy McGrady? She loved to let him get his ass beat, then call him for touches on the other side.
