His draft board wasn't on who would be available. It was for the overall draft. Remember that the rockets had the possibility to move up, so it would be stupid just to have a list pf players that would be "available" to them at 14th... If I recall correctly they had a possible deal in place that would had landed them the 2nd overall pick (to draft Cousins). In which we would take back Elton Brands contract in addition to the 2nd pick and send back expirings and young players. But Morey hesitanted to send too many assets back to Philly, because he wanted them in case we had to do a sign and trade for Chris Bosh in the off-season ... sigh.
Did anyone ever think that morey at the trade deadline purposely traded away shane and brooks thinking that this trade will no doubt end our season? But the way the rox have been playing lately has really impressed me
Okay, I am getting my information from Morey, not from internet websites. The Rockets had Patterson at #6 on their draft board. A draft board that probably consisted of maybe Monroe, Udoh, Aminu, Aldrich, ect. Patterson was #6 on that board. Not an overall board of who they would go 1,2,3,4..... Im pretty sure John Wall was not on the board that Morey was speaking of when he said Patterson was No. 6 And it would be stupid to not have a draft board of players that might be available. And it would also be stupid to have just one draft board. Morey also said that moving up in the draft was too costly, maybe because he was trying to save some assets for maybe a sign and trade like you said earlier. But that must mean that Morey knows that they most likely are not going to move up in the draft. So you create a draft board of Players that we are interested in, Hence some of the players I named above. And you probably put PPatt #6 on that list.
How do you know all these? Are you an insider? Why is it stupid to rank ALL players on a single list in the order of how much you want it? Whenever a player is selected, you just cross out the name. When it's your turn, you just take the highest one still available.
Morey said after the draft that they had Patterson 6th on their board. That's why their room erupted when the Raptors took Ed Davis. Too lazy to look up the link for it, but it was posted on here shortly after the draft.
This would be the wrong way to do this. You have EVERY player on your draft board, unless you will never draft a certain player. (That "you will never draft a certain player" is not because you do not think they will still be there when you draft, but rather because of soemthing about that player you do not like.) Otherwise, if a player falls for no good reason, you won't them ranked with your other players. In you earlier statement, you added the word "available" which completely changes what Morey said. He never said that. He only said on his board. Without that qualification you have to assume, he rating 2Pat #6 in the entire draft. Also, I remember reading somewhere a few years ago, that teams often give players tiered ratings, like 1st Tier, 2nd Tier, etc, and then rank the players in each tier. Then you always take a player from the highest tier possible, and then take the player on that tier based on what ever you ranked that tier on (potential, position, etc). Take the 2010 draft. A teams ranks could be: 1st Tier: 1. Wall 2. Cousins 3. Favors 2nd Tier: 1. Turner 2. Wes Jo 3. Monroe 3rd Tier: 1. Paul George 2. 2Pat 3. Udoh etc... They explained that the Tier system helps teams decide when they can trade down. Teams don't often trade down if there is only 1 person the tier they want. They only trade down if most of the players on their highest current tier are still available, so that at that lower pick, they will likely be able to nab one of them.

You are wrong. I am too lazy to go find the link, but that's okay. Critical thinking to the rescue! It is well known that the draft room exploded, with jubilation presumably, when the Raptors took Ed Davis, which meant we could draft Patterson. Now think for a second. If Patterson was 6th on Morey's list of players who he thought he could potentially draft with the 14th pick... why the hell would anyone be happy? In fact, taking not your first choice, not your second choice, but SIXTH, is almost the WORST case scenario. Now unless you are making a case that the draft room exploded with agony and utter defeat, what you are proposing doesn't make a lot of sense. The draft room exploded and management was ecstatic to pick up Patterson because he was someone who FELL to us. Someone who, given the opportunity, Morey would have taken with the 6th pick in the draft, but was fortunate enough to get him with the 14th. Most people here thought Morey was crazy to rank him that high, which is why some feel he is vindicated now by that updated redraft.
Yes, the 6th on their board thing was widely known. I was asking how he knew that his interpretation of it was the correct one. I thought he was claiming that he got THAT from Morey himself.
Man this has a chance to be a TREMENDOUS day for our playoff prospects if we can hold on vs SA. Memphis, Portland and Utah all lost.
