Gentlemen, Being an avid basketball fan and Yao supporter, it seems to me that Yao's skill/style would be better exploited on the Utah Jazz given their offensive/defensive structure. Before everyone bashes me, I will give you my reasons: 1. Ming excels in a passing/motion type offense - The Rox are known for over dribbling and one on one play. 2. Ming can benefit from a pure passing point guard- He will get 10 pts a game just off of the passes of Stockton. 3. Ming will have a bruiser to support him in the paint- Karl Malone will be able to help rebound and guard the paint. This will give Ming less pressure and allow him to stay out of foul trouble and slowly adapt to the league. 4. Ming can play with an experienced group of professionals- Albeit, the Rox has tons of talent, most of their stars are still years away from their primes. The league is fortunate that Yao is not on the Jazz. Imagine Malone and Ming playing the high post/low post game and Stockton running pick and rolls with Ming. Mr. B I know t

yes! Ming will be a better fit at Utah... and he can learn more from Stockton/malone than he can ever from any players in the rockets.

thats a good point. i also think michael jordan (say about the 1992 version), shaq, malone, t-mac, and kidd would all be good fits on the rockets. the only problem is, they arent rockets.
That has to be the last team that is a good fit for Yao. You have to learn how to flop and cheat, and Yao has too much honor to cheat. And let's not even discuss the life expectancy of a flopping 7'6 player, when there is an SI Jinx thread about.
This CRAP is ANNOYING. Yao Ming is in a perfect situation with the ROX. He has top3 point guards in the league in Francis, a scoring machine in Mobley, Thomas, Taylor, and Griffin to help him down low. Wouldn't it be great to have the all-stars play at one city all the time? They would be unbeatable. But this is a league and the ping pong ball bounced into Rockets court and with it came Ming. I'm all for it. Please do remember that Utah was not on the list of favorable cities and I would think it'll be very hard for them to work out a deal to bring Ming to Utah. There is no asian population there to speak of and it's a small metro area. Besides all that, that one year, that's right one year for Malone and Stockton (both will probably retire next year) will not be enough for Ming. He would have to carry the team, much like he did with the Chinese National Team. Again, not a good idea for Ming's development. I truly think that Ming is going to the right team. Rockets need a great center, have great talent and a coach that will teach him how to play. Whatever you may think of ISO basketball, it worked (for a while until the rule changes). Now Rudy T has a great tool, much like the Dream, to work with. I'd be surprise if we do see much more entertaining B-ball this season.

Even though I think it's evident that Mrbasketbrawl is just trying to stir things up, we can refute him logically without breaking a sweat. * Rudy has shown that he can exploit and enhance a center's game as much as (I'm not saying more than) any coach in NBA history. Some people definitely would not have gotten the productivity out of Dream and the championships that Rudy did. The offense met Dream's talents perfectly, so we could expect that Yao is in good coaching hands. Sloan has never had a center worth beans, but he tends to simply insult his centers until they fall into fetal positions on the bench. * The Jazz are definitely entering the early and ugliest phases of rebuilding now. I believe most people admit that now. Stockton would make nice passes to Yao, for one more season at most. * Yao, and the Chinese government wanted him to end up in a decent sized city with a tangible Asian presence. Salt Lake City (and I've been there ... shudder), is probably the absolute last place in the US that would fit those criteria. In the immortal words of Trader Jorge, CLASS DISMISSED.
