"You guys are way too much! This is one of the funniest threads I've ever read here, from top to bottom. From the soup kitchen or soup nazi or soup communist or whatever that was,to Cato's bench stats or munch stats,it was simply hilarious. By the time I got to the bottom of the thread my sides were aching and my face was hurting from laughing. I'm surprised the fam didn't wake up." This sums up my reaction exactly! I laughed so hard I started tearing up. There is no way I can ever see Rudy T and not associate him with "soup commander-in-chief". No offense to anyone, but those translations were hilarious. Beautifully lyrical, but hilarious nonetheless.
The thought of Achebe's translation still get me laughing even after a night of sleep. Soup Commander in Chief. . . hahahahaha
Not sure how the nicknaming process works around here, but I officially nominate this as Big Kev's new nickname. I can picture him hopping into his Navigator or whatever he drives, after a long day at the office(32 mins, 3 pts., 4 rebs., 5 fouls), driving home to a super-sized pimped out Teepee.
why is ever1 getin sensitive with RT "roaring at ming"? Rudy is the coach Yao is a rookie, never seen a day in the nba, still very young. what ever rudy says and does ..is for the benifit of Yao!!! good job tudy and keep up the biotching! food, rockets, bills, mariners, 1 year old boy, hot gf..ma life is complete-cancerman
i have yet to not here a coach not roar at a player. That's what coaches do, they teach. And it's not in their nature to do it in a polite way. "ummm...pardon me Mr. Yao....could you move a little slower....if it' ok with you...ummm...if not, forget i ever said it...sorry......."
CATO: Get the f*** out. YAO: Out? CATO: See that doorway? Don't hit your head when you walk through it. You come here, you think you're gonna take my j-o-b, I got news for you... RUDY: Hey, guys, how's it going, everything cool? CATO: Oh yeah, it's cool, I was just giving my boy a few pointers.
Somebody please translate this to real English. The literal translation from dictionary software doesn't cut.
About "Soup Commander". It's a result of English-to-Chinese-to-English translation. By pronunciation, Rudy's last name translates into "ÌÀÄ·¼ÖŵάÆæ". And "Coach" is "½ÌÁ·". But "ÌÀÄ·¼ÖŵάÆæ½ÌÁ·" is too long and un-cool in Chinese. In China, you can use one's last name and title together to address someone. Although ÌÀÄ·¼ÖŵάÆæ is really Rudy's full last name, in China one's last name is usually the first character of his/her name. So in Rudy's case, we use the first char of the translation of his last name, which is "ÌÀ". Next, the title. ½ÌÁ· is coach, so "ÌÀ½ÌÁ·" is ok. But to show respect to a famous, successful coach, we use "˧". ˧ literally means "Commander". And "ÌÀ˧" just sounds so much cooler than "ÌÀÄ·¼ÖŵάÆæ½ÌÁ·" in Chinese. However, if you translate that back to English. "ÌÀ" means "Soup" in Chinese. Although we were using it's pronunciation, the automatic translator has no way of knowing it. So it gives "Soup Commander". In my option, Soup Commander is very cool too. Btw, I suggest you guys download the Simplified Chinese Language pack for windows. There'll be a lot of Chinese fans posting here.
Yeah... I laughed when I saw "Soup"... then I remembered that soup is pronounced like "tang" in mandarin...
