I would hand him the all-star status automatically if he were playing for the eastern conference where pathetic guys like Todd Macculough almost made the all-stars last yr. also Mouning out for the season. the only competitions comes from Mount Mutombo and J. Oneal. I mean, come on. there is no good center in the east. whereas in the west, there is Mr. Shaq. he's an automatic lock for an all-star spot unless he decides he's not playing , like last year. who are the people that Ming fight for the all-star spot in the west then? 1. Candy man - LAC, been in the league for a few years. has some good post up moves. 2. David Robinson - SA , twilight of his career. may not even be a factor this yr cuz troubled by injuries. 3. Arvydas Sabonis - Por, back after 2 years break. doubt if this old man can do any damage at all. 4. Divac - Sac, this guy's mouth is bigger than his skills. I say if Ming puts up decent #s like AT LEAST 13+ points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks... he's got a REAL GREAT chance to play in the all-star game.
and also since fans get to cast votes.. Ming will get HUGE fan support ESP. from china. don't be surprise if he gets more votes than V.C this year.
This has been done. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36924&highlight=Yao+Ming+and+allstar
hopefully dirk Nowiski will be handed a forward spot instead of a center task. since shaq will take 1 all-star spot, unless he's not playing.. so basically there is only 1 remaining.
also, if Mount Mutombo could made the all-stars whereas he's only capable of blocking shots and rebound... but can't score. here you get Ming, a better shot blocker than Mutombo ever was, and an equal or a bit less rebounder. and definately a better scorer. don't see any reason why ming won't make it.
Congratulations gun_gy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have broken the record for largest ratio of posts in one's own thread. Keep up the good work, fella!!!
Hey, I bet I could name some more Eastern conference Centers that aren't relavent to the title of the post. Ming=Western conference.
Ming could be an All-Star but I don't think he will because he will be brought along slowly and will need time adjusting to the NBA- that'll take atleast the first 4-8 weeks, if not longer. He'll definitely be in contention for the All-Star ballot next year, but this year will be the year he learns and gets used to, not only the NBA, but the culture shock he will be seeing.
come now I like Ming just as much as the next guy but dont discredit mutombo's career. Ming as much as I like the guy has yet to play in a regular season game while Mutombo has more than established himself as one of the best shot-blockers the league has even seen. By the time Ming retires then make that comment that Ming is "a better shot blocker than Mutombo ever was" but dont say stuff like that before Ming has yet to play in a NBA game I am sure Ming will be a great shot-blocker maybe one of the best ever to play but I dont want to praise him waaaay too much before he plays a regular season game.
