It is sickening to see the wimp suck up. Who will run against this poser in the Democratic primary? I suppose the game is: " , Bush Family, Don't hurt me in 2012 and I won't hurt you in 2016 when Jeb runs. You know you can trust me to do the moderate Republican thing till then. Just look at how I kept all your old buds as senior advisers for the wars and for Wall Sreet. I'll be a good boy if you don't oppose me too much." *************** MIAMI - In his first year as Florida governor, Jeb Bush was vilified by Democrats as a "radical" for an education agenda they argued would undermine public schools. So it was a striking moment when, 12 years later, a Democratic president came here Friday to hail the Republican as a "champion of education reform." It was even more striking to consider that President Obama, introduced by Bush for a speech at a Miami high school, was teaming up with the younger brother of the man he replaced in the White House - a predecessor he has been quick to blame for many of America's troubles. And even more intriguing to think that, if only his last name were not Bush, Jeb would probably be the Republican Party's best hope of beating Obama next year. Actually, given what's going on in Wisconsin and the central role being played by the teacher's union there, I think it's actually a pretty good political move for him to be hanging out with a former Republican governor and talking about improving and investing in education while Scott Walker is vilified as trying to screw teachers. I think it's wise to talk about finding ways to improve schools rather than just ranting about collective bargaining. The implicit point is "See, the rational Republicans know education is important and actually do something about it, not like that joker in Wisconsin."
Here's the White House weekly address, delivered in a class room in Miami, FL: <object width="480" height="300"><param name="movie" value="http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/all/modules/swftools/shared/flash_media_player/player5x2.swf"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="bgcolor" value="282828"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><param name="flashvars" value="config=http://www.whitehouse.gov/xml/video/26981/config.xml&path_to_plugins=http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/modules/wh_multimedia/wh_jwplayer/plugins&path_to_player=http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/all/modules/swftools/shared/flash_media_player/player5x2.swf"></param><embed src="http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/all/modules/swftools/shared/flash_media_player/player5x2.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="300" flashvars="config=http://www.whitehouse.gov/xml/video/26981/config.xml&path_to_plugins=http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/modules/wh_multimedia/wh_jwplayer/plugins&path_to_player=http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/all/modules/swftools/shared/flash_media_player/player5x2.swf&share_url=http://www.whitehouse.gov/photos-and-video/video/2011/03/05/weekly-address-cutting-waste-investing-future"></embed></object> Notice the poster in the back says "Mighty Rockets."
Poser? I guess you've been under a rock and didn't know that one area Obama and Republicans pretty much see eye-to-eye on is education. Are you claiming Obama has done a flip-flop since being elected? Obama didn't campaign as a flaming leftist and isn't one. Get over it. Your ideal president would have no chance of getting elected because the majority of the country doesn't believe like you.
What were the education reforms Jeb Bush implemented? What effect did they have? If they worked, then maybe it would make sense to look at that as a model, despite the fact that someone you don't like initiated it.
Not every Republican is bad and not every Republican idea is bad. The Bush family is not evil. The President is not a "wimp" or "poser." Working with people of different parties and ideologies isn't "sucking up." He's an adult trying to lead a country. Maybe it's time others start acting like adults and realize most issues in America aren't black and white and can't easily be solved by implementing hardline partisan policies.
Extremely well said. The sad thing is that hardliners like glynch simply cannot understand that the ability to work with others is an integral part of this thing called leadership.
