Going to London soon, but not sure where to stay. Free wifi is a must, and also must be near the subways so I can get around. Any ideas??
I stayed near Heathrow which was a huge mistake. It took almost an hour by underground to get to anything interesting.
These are the ones my family and I prefer, namely for their prime location, participation in SPG and Marriott Rewards, and excellent service since the last 12 years: -Sheraton Park Tower -Marriott Marble Arch -The Lanesborough
RKREBORN, do you have status with any of the chains (Hilton, Starwood, Hyatt...). It comes with free Internet access. The Starwood hotels are pretty expensive in London, except the ones at Heathrow, which suck. The Hilton hotels almost all suck, but are cheaper. Maybe you should let us know in which area of London you want to be, then we can narrow it down.
What type of hotel are you looking for? Is this for business travel? Whenever I stay in hotels (business or pleasure), I am always loyal to SPG since I have Platinum status with them. I've stayed at the Sheraton Park Tower that dmc89 recommended. Very centrally located, right down the street from Harrod's in Knightsbridge IIRC. If you're traveling for pleasure and are looking for a budget option, I recommend the Ace Hotel.
Post up where you can a great view of Desi girls , or Mix of Brit/Desi girls .... remember to bring out the "American accent" to counter "Brits accent". sombreros , fajitas , tamales , Slowly-D what ? ......
We're looking to stay in an area which offers lots of accessibility. I was told Paddington? But have no clue. I want to be near tube stations so I can move around the city. Also, my main priority is safety and access to free internet, so other amenities are just a bonus. Also, cheap as possible and would not mind staying in a 2 star hotel lol. Thanks for the suggestions!
Both offer free wi-fi, and are within walking distance of railway stations. Brown's -- located in the heart of Mayfair (prime location for shopping, access to Hyde Park) 11 Cadogan Gardens -- located in the heart of Knightsbridge (quieter neighborhood, stones throw from the Thames)
many many moons ago we stayed in the Paddington area. I remember the name because of the bear. Place was very clean -- had a sink in the room, but the loo was down the hall. The included breakfast was a hard boiled egg, and dry toast. This was pre-wifi! Pre-internet! I recall it was very convenient to everything. And that we were very pleased with the place. Learned about it through Let's GO, or Lonely Planet. Very budget and a far cry from Starwoods -- but the area was ideal. Have jolly good time. London's awesome. Everybody talks like they're in a Monty Python skit. I could hardly keep a straight face at the airport.
We usually stay at the Paddington Hilton. Its super easy to get to (the Paddington station is the stop for the Heathrow express from the airport). Walk across the street and down the stairs to the tube station. We like it because we often go out of town too, so we jump on the trains heading out from Paddington to go out to Windsor.
Good choice. With the Heathrow Express, you are at the airport in no time, and still, it is relatively close to most things. You can just walk from the hotel into the train station, they are connected.
I just stayed at the new Doubletree, 92 Southampton Row last night. 80 GBP was a pretty good rate. Due to my status with Hilton, Internet was free. It's not very far from the other Doubletree. You get a free cookie, too .
Do you travel for the majority of the year? Since you're an entrepreneur, are all of the travel expenses on your dime?
Kensington Rooms in South Kensington was an awesome hotel...a block from the Tube and 3 blocks from Harrods.
