All else being equal, do you think adding Rudy Gay to the current roster would make the Rockets a contender?

Nope but if it is assets Rockets are collecting, he would be worth more than what we got for Battier. He might have even netted Morey that "player" he was after but didn't get.

    Were also out of:

Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady. Two pieces Battier was brought in to specifically compliment.

Had those two stayed healthy we're not even having this discussion.

Everybody was healthy during the 2007 post-season and the Rockets still lost in the first round with Battier being outplayed by Matt Harpring, a bench player for Utah at the time who's no longer in the league. So Shane definitely didn't help the team "win now" just like he never helped Memphis "win now" in the post-season nor will he help the Griz "win now" now. It's amazing the excuses people will come up with to defend this guy.

So you're gonna hang your hat on one post-season where our 2 superstars were healthy? It's amazing the lengths you'll go to try and disparage this guy.

Just out of curiosity, why is Harpring out of the league?

    Shoulda...woulda...coulda....

Fact: First round(we are not even talking deep in playoffs) loss despite holding home court advantage and with all three healthy so your argument does not hold. Failure to show up to support the big two right then, which was the reasoning behind the trade.

Fact: Traded away for what many consider at this point to be a bust.

Fact: Rockets are playing fine right now. The way folks on this board hype him up, you would think this team would have fallen apart once he was gone.

Bottom line is this: Rockets overpaid to get him and it didnt work out and they really didnt get much in return once they decided to off-load him. A decent but over-hyped player.

I guess reading comprehension is not your thing, but I'm not hanging my hat on nothing but the facts. I guess you decided to conveniently ignore the part in my post where I referenced how he didn't help the Grizzlies "win now" either...0-12 the playoffs, just like you conveniently failed to mention how he still didn't help the Rockets "win now" when everybody was healthy in Houston in your original post. If I was in your position, I would ignore the facts as well.

Just out of curiousity, why was Battier outplayed by this bench player who is no longer in the league? You would think a guy you traded a lottery pick for would be able to help the team "win now" like he was supposed to, right?

Exactly, they act like he is this mythical figure and this once in a lifetime generational role player when the facts demonstrate that guys like him are a dime a dozen in this league. Facts were never the strong suit of the Battier only fans. It just goes to show the wonders the media can do in conditioning people to believe certain things through propaganda.

Battier did well in the 07' playoffs. I think some of our lesser role players really hurt us in that series. Luther Head went from scoring 11 pts in regular season to 4 pts in the playoffs and his 3PT% dropped from 45% in regular season to 26% in that series. Howard dropped from 10PTS & 6 REB a game in regular season to 5pts & 4reb a game.

Yao got outplayed by Boozer all the time--it was just a bad match-up. I'd still want a healthy Yao on my team.

You don't draft a guy based on how he matches up with one guy. Bad match-ups happen. KG and Howard had some pretty crappy games against Yao. I'd still want them on my team.

And don't forget that bad series happen too, for whatever reason.

Rudy Gay gets alot of love on these boards. Especially for a guy who hasn't won anything since he has been in the league
