Bonner is ridiculous. Right now he's shooting 51.3% from behind the arc. Against the Heat right now he's 6-7 from behind the arc. This puts him at 85/161 on the season which is 52.8%. This is right above Steve Kerr and Tim Legler's regular season record of 52.4%. Can he break it?
Matt Bonner is what Steve Novak could have been. The difference is Bonner actually has a b-ball IQ while Novak is completely clueless while he's out on the floor.
Spurs have a dead eye for talent. They have probably the best talent scout in the entire NBA. If a team as to make a player useful, there is no better team than the Spurs.
Let's put things in perspective though, Novak is the 12th man/inactive list player fodder. Novak in any team in the NBA would occupy that similar role. It's not like Novak will be a Manu or Parker story. I was just commenting that Pops actually sees Novak useful enough to offer him a roster spot, Spurs are really emphasizing the 3pt shot this year.
Kerr's record was broken last year by Kyle Korver when he shot 53.6%. That is the regular season record so Bonner needs to shoot a little better but I agree what he is doing is ridiculous
They gave us scola because they were going to lose him for nothing with the trade they got v-span and a pick if im not mistaken
They Spurs had a deal with Scola's team in Europe. When it fell through, they could've used Scola but they signed Oberto instead. We can agree that Scola >>>> Oberto right? And then they traded Scola with Jackie Butler for VSpan and a second round pick. We can agree that Scola >>>> all these right?
Yeah. They drafted Scola. In fact they drafted Dragic too. Spurs may trade away good players, but that doesn't mean they have a bad eye for talent. You're blind if you think the Spurs aren't the elites in scouting talents.
At the time spurs had a window to sign scola and they would've lost him for nothing because they couldn't sign him so they made the trade.
The Spurs always seem to have some 3pt shooter avg 50% at some point in the season even though they might not finish the year with that number. It's players with these numbers why other teams fans laugh when Rockets fans claim to have a great 3pt shooter who can't even hit 40%.
I think part of the reason for that is Pops does a great job finding them wide open looks off of screens and movement. (gotta give props to parker, hill, and ginobli too)
They also got our VP of Player Operations or whatever. Who plays a significant role for them now. In the long run, he'll have a bigger impact than Scola would have.
