they've always had these honor codes in place. That's the rules and although it may seem trivial/stupid to most, BYU has rules and apparently a rule was broken. I thought I read he could do things to get back in good graces, but maybe he just needs to go somewhere else... mormons...
Hold, if the "honor code" is about doing nothing that is addictive, then I'm going to guess that masturbation is too (just an addictive stimulus with no purpose). No pre-marital sex, and no masturbation? Then surely p*rn is addictive, too. No pre-marital sex, no masturbation and no p*rn. I'm going to say 99% of the student body is addicted to one of those things. And the other 1% is addicted to Clutchfans.net, slothing around the internet. So is anyone at BYU really adhering to the spirit of the Honor Code.
Believe it or not, I went to BYU and managed to stay sex, masturbation, and p*rn free. And I wouldn't even say it's a huge issue with most students. It's just a different lifestyle we live I guess, hard as that is to believe. But I am, of course, on ClutchFans every day. So I can't say I'm totally addiction free.
Jay Bilas said last night that he was recruited heavily by BYU, and had no idea of the no coffee/alcohol/sex code. My suspicion is that Davies or his girlfriend really did something to anger someone in a high place - maybe crossed someone's son or daughter, something along those lines. There's just no way that a major D-1 athletic program doesn't break several of those rules on a regular basis. None. Hopefully some of the SLC-area journalists can eventually break what truly led to this. It's a shame for BYU, because as evidenced by the reaction the past day or so, most recruits didn't know. It will definitely have an impact.
saw this on a BYU messageboard: Brandon is going to be known as the guy who destroyed BYU's best chance at a national championship because he had premarital sex. Every girl he ever tries to date and her family will be able to do a Google search and know his transgression. ughhhh.
Oh GOD. I would just be mortified if someone could google search me and find out that I have had sex before. What would people think?!?!
I think the lasting impact of this will end up being on BYU, not the player. The timing couldn't be worse for their program. For it to happen when they are ranked #3 and have Jimmer Fredette as a celebrity player is a disaster. What has been the motherload of positive attention now shifts to something completely different and negative.
Here's an interesting little read about Jim McMahon's tenure at BYU. I would definitely love to hear more of exactly what happened with him. Apparently it (honor code violations) was tolerated during McMahon's time there. http://sportsbybrooks.com/byu-expelled-non-mormon-mcmahon-spiked-hof-20774
They're allowed to run things how they want. But man, this is so f***ing stupid. Lots of people's lives negatively impacted again by some asinine blasphemy rule/law. WAY TO GO! YOU SURE SHOWED THOSE KIDS HOW BAD SEX IS!
Let's play: What are the boosters doing? Scenario #1 * Phone rings Provost (witht he AD in the room): Hello? Booster: Hi, this is a big time Booster. Provost: Hi Booster, thanks for your support during this time of moral confusion and we look forward to those well needed alumni donation checks to help build the extension on the library. Booster: Umm, yeah, about that... __________________________________________________________________ Scenario #2 Big time Booster rushes into the Athletic Director's office. AD: Big time Booster, what is it? Booster: You're never going to believe this. AD: What is it? Booster: I have here marriage documents and certificates confirming that Davies was actually married 2 weeksago. The kid must just have ammnesia. AD: Oh, really? Booster: Yeah, so is he back on the team? ___________________________________________________________________ Scenario #3 Booster walks into the AD's office accompanied by another man carrying a briefcase. AD: Oh, Booster so nice to see you. Booster: Hello, AD. AD: And who is this? Booster: This is Mr. Washington, from the NAACP...
If BYU looked the other way on this until after the season, and it came out later that they did, they would be criticized to no end for being hypocritical. Ironically, most of the criticism would probably come from the same people currently criticizing them for doing the opposite. Whether you agree with their honor code or not is totally irrelevant. If you don't agree with the honor code, don't go to the school.
When I was in the Army as an 18yr old, I succeeded in going alcohol, sex, p*rn, masturbation free for 6 mos of initial training, when I had very little privacy (pretty much none). I guess you are right; it's not too hard, but I was under a full scheduled day with a lot of physical training and would fall asleep at 8pm in about 2 minutes. But if I was around women, I couldn't do it. Especially at age 18.
btw: Is the pregnant girl a student? What happens to her? It would suck to be a single mother abandoned by your school. also, still no pick of the girl! come on guys; you're letting me down.
