For doubts on whether or not the NBA is rigged.. just see the SUMO Wrestling discussion in Freakonomics.. statistics don't lie and where there's lots of money to be made, corruption is inevitable. Tim Donaghy wasn't lying.
OK fine, but we're talking here of the dunk contest only. Will someone please tell me those 5 judges were TOLD to FAVOR Griffin? Or it could just be honest "mistakes" all throughout? You see, I grew up idolizing those players esp (Dr. J) and reading this thread, its coming out like they were corrupted to favor a marketing scheme. My fandom includes basketball ability and personal integrity.
Dr. J has a ton of intergrity and I doubt he looks at favoring Griffin in a dunk as deceiving the fans as much as helping the growth of the game. Whether this is through commercials that make money or results that publicize the players. I think Julius Erving has the players in mind more than the shills who run the NBA.
It was that and a combination of KIA getting their car in the spotlight for final dunk. No way KIA pays a couple million and Griffin not make it to finals. Btw, he jumped over the hood. I would hardly call that jumping over a car.
Well yea. I was telling people from the start Griffin was going to win unless he got hurt or withdrew. He is the new NBA golden boy......what LeBron used to be
I thought it was a joke that Griffin got 46 on his second dunk of the first round (just enough to beat Derozan by 1 overall) when Derozan got 44 on his first dunk which was more difficult and looked better. Both of them had multiple misses on those dunk attempts, so that shouldn't have factored in. All in all, I hate the judging, but I see it as a form of entertainment and nothing more. I thought Derozan was the best dunker and I enjoyed the evening... I don't really see a point in making it more than it is.
It's just the stupid rules. We all got robbed from seeing two more dunks from DeRozan (and Ibaka). If we just made it so that they all get to do their 4 dunks, and to judge the winner from those 4 dunks, we'd be better off.
I would think the dunk contest is huge. It's the highlight of the weekend, and there's no other nba games competing for viewership.
It was clearly rigged to anyone who saw it. Griffin's dunks were simply not that impressive as compared to his competitors. The press release flub is just the cherry on top. Aside from that, they need to get rid of this multiple tries crap. Have more competitors, give them each one shot per round and narrow the competition tourney style.
