I hope this comes back to bite Sterling where it hurts - in his pocket book. Sterling putting out such a tacky ad and not only putting the NBA logo on it(Stern has to be pissed) but also putting his star player's face on it. If Blake leaves the Clippers in few years, I hope he makes it clear that things like this are why he is leaving. Not only is the add ignorant and offensive to blacks(including Blake), but it hurts Blake's brand to have idiot Sterling dragging his star's name and face into his own ignorant racial missteps.

It's really a shame that no one on the team or among fans has the balls to protest him. How powerful would that be if the team peacefully sat out several minutes of a game in protest or if fans all left their seats for a few minutes just to protest the owner. How powerful would that be?

Sterling's Latest Blunder Should be His Last

On March 2, the Los Angeles Clippers celebrated Black History Month at home by offering 1,000 underprivileged children the opportunity to attend the Clippers home game against the Houston Rockets.

Of course, March 2 is during Women's History Month, two days removed from February, which is Black History Month. You can add this to the mounting evidence that Clippers owner Donald Sterling should be stripped of his ownership.

The Clippers have been mismanaged ever since Sterling took over the team. Sterling bought the Clippers from Irv Levin in 1982 for $20 million. In those 29 years, the team has only advanced past the first round of the playoffs once (2006).

But chronic ineptitude is not a rationale to demand a change in ownership — it's Sterling's history of racially insensitive business practices that must be addressed by the league.

Sterling, a Los Angeles real estate mogul, has been sued twice in the past eight years for discrimination. The first lawsuit was filed in 2003 by a group of 19 plaintiffs that included the nonprofit Housing Rights Center. Sterling was accused of discriminating against black and Latino tenants. The case led to settlement with the plaintiffs for $5 million.

The federal government filed the second lawsuit on August 2006 on similar grounds. In this case, Sterling again settled, this time for $2.73 million.

The fact that Sterling has been forced to settle twice, and both for substantial amounts of money, should be a cause for concern for the NBA.

How can commissioner David Stern, so conscious of the league's image that he has established a dress code and harsh technical foul rules for the players, accept the fact that one of the league's owners may have claimed that black tenants "smell and attract vermin"? What does this say about the league?

But it's a third pending lawsuit that may leave Stern with no choice but to consider booting Sterling out of the league.

This 2009 lawsuit, filed by Hall of Famer and former Clippers general manager Elgin Baylor, will go to trial this week. In the suit, Baylor alleges that he was fired unjustly and was discriminated against on the basis of age.

Additionally, Baylor pointed to many instances of racism by the Clippers, which he described as fostering a "plantation mentality." Sterling is alleged to have made racist statements about players in the locker room and in negotiating contracts.

Baylor's accusations, surprisingly, have not led to any criticism from Stern.

That may change if Baylor's case leads to another settlement or if Sterling is found liable. Stern will need to force Donald Sterling to sell his woeful franchise. Maybe their next owner will know the correct month to honor Black History.

The only problem is I'm pretty sure Stern has no power to force Sterling out. If it is possible at all, the owners would have to vote on it. And then Sterling would sue (and possibly win), so they'd have that headache to deal with. And besides, probably not many owners want to set a precedent of owners being forced out, in case they're next. They are likely just figuring that Sterling isn't much longer for this world anyway.
