I am posting this for Spring training game info. Please don't post roster moves or other stuff in here. It is for game reaction only. I don't think we need a thread for every game but I expect this one to grow and I am going to use this one as a gauge. I will close it and start a new one at some point. As always please do not give play by play in here.
His OBP is way too low, something like .320 for his career. Not only that he's prone to strikeouts and easy ground outs because he chases just about everything in the dirt. I was always told "if it breaks at your knees, don't swing at it", someone should tell Pence. His WAR is pretty darn low as well, Keppinger had a better WAR last year. In Pence's defense, if Pence can learn to lay off those low and outside breaking balls he could be a much, much better player, maybe even an all-star.
Not a good start by Wandy. Got through the first ok, but is getting bombed in the 2nd. Hope this isn't a repeat of last season.
I'm not going to be too worried about Wandy during the spring, particularly this early. Wandy goes as far as his curveball will take him. I'm guessing his curve came out a little flat today. As the spring wears on, he'll get a little more feel for things.
caveat: we said that during the spring last year when wandy was getting hammered...but he ended up sucking during the first part of the season just as much as he had in the spring.
If you will look at Wandy's splits from last year , he was a slow starter but finished very strong. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=rodriwa01&year=&t=p#half::none I just hope he starts clicking quicker than 30-40% into the season.
Tough start for Wandy but NICE start for the Wallrus, reallllyyyyyyy hoping he wins that 1st base job.
And it was a huge reason why they got off to such a slow start. If there is any hope in 2011, Wandy has to be a very big part of it.
Weird. Whenever I try to load the page it just sits there at "Waiting for a Reply" and never goes any further. Maybe its some weird cookies thing with my work machine.
