Who is entering the draft in 2012 and why can't they enter it in 2011, high schoolers as of today?

Eh either way, I just want Thabeet around to see if our player development staff is as awesome as I think it is. It will be a bigger challenge than "Ugly betty" (the original colombian version).

Come on coaching staff, take this guy to King status. =)

Please stop starting stupid threads. This could have easily gone in the many other Thabeet threads or you could have saved all of us some time and trouble and not even posted this at all.

If he becomes an Okafor averaging something like 10/10/2 blocks he would be ideal.

People forget if he sucks this year he's gone. One year experiment is well worth it.

This. We aren't locked up with him long term. Free's up right before 2012 (just like a lot of other contracts.

If Morey doesn't have a good looking roster past 2012, then I will be surprised.

Supposedly this isn't just based on 2011 guys skipping the draft, but rather high school players who are projected to be awesome and forced to go to college this year. At least this is what's being said.

Not sure how the Rockets staff views them. But given that Morey has talked about how teams with really high picks are handsomely rewarded, I have to believe he's at least thinking about tanking.

Exactly. What do you have to lose? Regardless of whether Thabeet becomes good or not, he's the type of player you have to play A LOT to find out. And if by doing so we just happen to lose a lot of games... all the more better.

If Thabeet doesn't develop, we get a high pick.
If Thabeet DOES develop, we still get a high pick because he's still going to suck through his massive amount of growing pains, PLUS we get a legit center. And it might even be enough to attract someone like CP3/DWill/DH in 2012.

It's like a no-lose situation except fans wanting to bash their heads through the wall while watching. :)

Are you a fan of developing young players? Thabeet is a massive, and I mean MASSIVE project. He may be a bust, but you can't tell until you give him major minutes and all your efforts to have him improve. Hence, the OP post. If we still try to win next year, then Thabeet will never see the light of the day. But if Morey's looking at the draft, playing him is the best route to go.

Hakeem is not in Orlando working with Howard. He is living in Jordan.

Jack Sikma and Carroll Dawson are big man coaches. CD is not a part of the coaching staff, but coaches the big men as a favor to the organization.

its too early to tell, the guy has hardly played NBA ball and he is gonna be working with his favorite player hakeem, + yao + deke+ hayes. if hes gonna make waves its gonna be here in houston, not in memphis. i think he can be a force to be reckoned with, hes got the right teachers hes just gotta work hard. look what hayes did with his offence this summer, he completely turned it around. assuming he works hard, i give him another two to three seasons to be a decent starting center. and if he keeps working hard and does good, in 5 yrs he will be a real threat like the grizzlies coach said.

    again- ITS UP TO THABEET

Caught this nugget on ESPN's recap of tonights game.

Houston coach Rick Adelman said he wants to see Thabeet practice before he puts him in a game. "I don't know what I'm supposed to do with him," Adelman said.

They've done an excellent job the past few years.

Scola, Landy, Patterson, Hayes --> all these guys have developed aspects of their game and are certainly better players than when they arrived in Houston.

Hill, Dorsey - no brains, but showed flashes. If they could listen and stop fouling might have been developed.

Heck, even Andersen improved his game markedly. Was rubbish on defence (and physically ungiftedness meant he couldn't improve) - but he was marginally passable at the end.

Very confident in their ability to get something out of Thabeet - who is already a shot blocking monster with a solid 15' jumper. He has the brains to listen to good coaching, and the physical tools to put it into play.

Great points. Rockets are definitely a better situation for him. I hope the Rockets don't lose Sikma, if Adelman leaves. Sikma's loss would leave a hole.
CD is great for the big guys, but he is not a full time coach.

If Sikma does leave, the rockets need to find another big man coach.
