Aren't they just like guinea pigs though, in that you wash them with shampoo every so often and you're good to go? One of my neighbors is selling theirs and I really want to buy it.

What sucks is those kids grew up to be jerks and took all those cools things away from the next generations!

Had a Burmese python until it died. Snakes don't make good pets IMO. I remember I had to get a wire mesh screen with clamps for the top as snake would use entire body to push lid off. Snake ended up rubbing off some of his nose skin around his heat sensors. Weird. A lot of the time, snake was free to roam room, hissed a lot when disturbed, was loose in house on many occasions, freaked my mom out, struck at the dog, struck me, had disgusting poo, needed baths, got bacterial infection, had to syringe feed for a while, and then committed suicide by smothering itself. Should have left snake in Philippines. Bad pets. Free or zoo. Free or zoo, man.

I dunno, I never had one personally. But a friend did and every time I was over it hit me like a ton of bricks. But maybe you're right, that you just have to be sure to wash them.

OP makes the pets sound so disposable in thread title... like a used rubber or something. But then again I guess they really are.

They don't smell that bad. Its not like they will stink up your entire room or anything, but you will be able to smell it if your'e holding it or if its in your immediate area. If you can't stand it, then there is some special ferret shampoo that will negate the odor.
