No basis behind this ignorant post. We get rid of an aging vet and a shoot-first PG. Yes, we might not have acquired pieces to help us win NOW, but Dragic has shown flashes of monster potential (Spurs series last year ring a bell?) and Thabeet is a flyer that's a low-risk/high-reward type player. Also, 2 first-round draft picks are nothing to cry about. Perhaps we keep them, or perhaps we ship them off this summer in a deal for a superstar. To say we didn't get any better, though, is just stupid.

I'm perfectly fine with what we did. I thought Morey did a great job today. Like I said earlier, getting 2 first-rounders out of those deals is highway robbery.

All I know is that Morey is developing a fetish for the 2009 draft. Next target: Ricky Rubio...

    C-

We got a couple young project bigs in Thabeet and Carroll, replaced the struggling Brooks with the struggling Dragic, and got a protected 1st rounder this year and a protected 1st rounder in a few years.

We aren't a better team than before, and I'm pretty uneasy about the future of this team.

I'm changing my C to a D after learning about the pick restrictions.

And for those screaming "Ish", give me a break. The guy is D-league fodder.

Today every person on this board that isn't drinking the kool-aid learned just what the Rockets have in terms of assets. They have squat. I guess the silver lining is we get to look at 2 new guys without any long term commitments. Still, I feel we should have been able to get something better for Battier and Brooks.

Was Battier the lock down defender we all knew and loved this year? Not so much. But I think that's a function of the fact that we didn't really have a big and that we weren't cutting it on the other end of the court.

As for Melo, even a rental would have been nice. I don't think Melo was pushing NY as hard as everyone was saying, it's just NY gave up half their team to get him. Seeing what we gave up today (and what we got) I'd be inclined to do the same...

Thabeet is bust, simple as that, no high reward with him
Dragic monster potential? He hasn't played well at all this year.
Morey did these trades for the draft picks, not the players involved.
C+, picks are the key here..

looks like a desperate move to me, i can understand the brooks trade but battier and Ish for Thabeet is gonna hurt us in long term, especially our defense is so bad right now

Yeah, THIS YEAR he hasn't. Doesn't mean he's never shown potential. Hell, last year, many people were proclaiming the second coming of Magic Johnson after what he did to the Spurs in the playoffs. I will admit that Thabeet is a long-long-long shot, but if a first-rounder is involved, what the hell do we got to lose? I stand by my A grade.

rockets also saved 3 million in luxury tax for this year

add up smith and battier and then subtract it by thabeet. you will get like 2.9 M

thabeet salary for next year is 5 M so his cost is actually 2 M

rockets also get a 1st round pick. everybody knows even the last pick in the 1st round goes for 3 M

cbud gets the chance to shine and rockets get a project at C and save money at the cost of no battier for 2 months

    i give DM a B

DM would have got an A if he got under the luxury tax by trading jeffries and a 1st round pick for a 2nd round pick from a team with a trade exception like the cavs

A+ on effort, B with end result

Lowered payroll, added picks, young talent. Interesting draft.

The Philadelphia trade with Speights and Kapono for Battier looks much better than trading for Thabeet and a pick.
The suns Trade is ok, i dont see a better offer.

    Happy keeping Lee

I believe it was going to be difficult to trade Scola because of NBA rules having to do with newly signed players.

Martin...I don't know. You definitely have to be extremely picky with where you trade a player of his caliber with his good contract. This isn't like trading aging Battier or expiring Brooks. He's not old, so I think if you can't get anything of high value you just wait.

I'm trying to think of a viable team that would have been interested in him AND had young prospects, but I'm not coming up with anything. Maybe he was included in the Deron Williams package? You would think a contender or semi contender in need of a starting shooting guard would want him, but those teams typically don't have great young prospects or high draft picks to offer.

I'm not enamored with this year's upcoming draft, but adding more picks just increases our chances of hitting on at least one good player, regardless of whether it's a good draft or bad draft. I'm hoping that we package them along with some of these young "assets" to acquire that superstar we're looking for.
