The fact that the Rockets won the last two games and the Nuggets, and the Jazz both lost their star players makes trading Battier less likely. The Rockets really do actually have a shot at making the playoffs now, and unless they want no defense whatsoever they dont trade Battier unless its a steal at the last second. We are talking multiple 1st round picks steal. The only deal I see now would be a Jefferies trade to Sacremento to get the Rockets under the lux tax. Im expecting that to be announced here at about 2:30PM CST. Once the Rockets are clearly out of the playoff hunt then they can always buyout Battier for the remainder of the season so he can join a contender.
That would be terrible. If you are going to have a project center, you pay him Whiteside money. Thabeet is essentially an expiring contract for next season. You don't need both.
would anyone agree to this Hill and Battier for Thabeet and Xavier Henry (young solid prospect for the future)
It's funny because earlier in the year they were calling Henry a young version of Battier. Battier has so much value to a contender, which is why I would think Memphis caves to the Rockets demands by the deadline, just don't know what those demands are?
Apparently the Lakers have been pursuing Battier pretty heavily in the past 48 hrs. Anyone know if they have anything (picks) of value? Dont say something crazy like Bynum. I know they have a late first round that might be owned by New Jersey, and a 2nd rounder. I think one pick i would be interested in would be one of two of their 2013 first round pick, and maybe a 2014 first round pick. Its far in the future, but if the Lakers decline as fast as they are projected, then those could be good picks.
It's the Lakers..The NBA won't allow the Lakers to falter and they will make the playoffs every year.. Something crazy will happen.. D. Howard, CP3, Kevin D, Kevin L.. , etch Something crazy ...
This team just gave up 119 points to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Jamison, Parker, Manny Harris, and Jamario Moon (swingmen'ish) all hit over half their shots. This is not a good defensive team. We currently have "no defense whatsoever". Battier is not the glue that is keeping this defense from falling apart. This defense has already fallen apart. If we can trade him for anything that improves the team, then let him go. Also, we don't owe him anything. He's a career role player in the last year of his contract. He doesn't have the right to refuse a trade. He doesn't deserve to go play for a contender. If he did, we'd be in the playoffs. If Minnesota calls and offers up some quality prospects or a draft pick, then he can go play in Minnesota for a few months, and then go wherever he wants. Again, the Rockets don't owe him anything.
here is what will happen - will will flip Battier to Grizz for Thabeet and it will be an uninspiring get something done for the sake of getting somethign done sort of move. then adleman will come in and never even put Thabeet on the floor. T Will will continue to sit on the pine and Rick will continue to talk about how he doesnt want to 'disrupt' his 28-31 11th place in the West squad's chemistry.... RICK NEEDS TO GO.
Relax bro. I'm sure that once Morey starts trading all his favorite players Miller, Bud, AB and Shane Rick will know his time is over and step down.
WojYahooNBA: Rockets-Grizzlies discussions on Battier-for-Thabeet plus pick, reported by Commericial-Appeal, "definitely has legs," source in talks says. [via Twitter]
I do agree rick needs to go, runs a good offense but the rest is pretty bad, why not develope younger players, battier is gone next year and were not making a playoff run.
