Everyone needs to shut up about tanking this season and trading our only good players for picks in this years draft. Who in the draft will help us?? Have any of you looked at the standings? The entire bottom teams in the East are so awful, that we don't even have a chance to be worse than them. Then we have 4 or so teams in the West that we can't catch either as far bottom feeders. Tanking this year is out of the question and trying to acquire a pick for a terrible draft class is pointless. We have 0 chance at getting a top 3 pick, best pick we can get if we tank is possibly an 11th pick. Sorry guys, but tanking this season isn't worth it. I can promise you that the Cavs won't find anyone to make them relevant in the draft. Fans need to relax and be patient. Prior to last season, we've had a team composed of at least 1 super star over the past 20+ years (Sampson, Malone, Hakeem, Clyde, Barkley, Pippen, Francis, Yao, TMac). If it wasn't for TMac and Yao having serious injuries, we'd still be relevant and on top of the West. When both players went down, there wasn't much we could do as far as getting a Super Star to replace them. We've endured 1 year and a half of "mediocre" basketball and people are ready to jump ship, fire the GM, move the team to Vegas, etc... people need to shut up about the management not making any moves and just be a fan and cheer for our current roster. If nothing happens in the next 1-2 years as far as a sense of direction, then yes you all can moan and complain. I hope everyone realizes now why our management kept trying and hoping (and still hopes) that Yao could rebound from his injuries, seeing how hard it is to obtain a Super Star in this league especially when all of those Super Stars have their eyes set on NYC, South Beach and LA. As I've said before, be patient and wait to see what happens. Tanking is already out of the question and I don't see us tanking for at least another 2 years and that's only if we fail to dramatically improve our roster with a star to build around.
The team loves fans like you. Yeah lets wait one or two more years and then be angry about it...Lets turn the Rockets into the Texans where low expectations rule and if you go .500 and just barely miss the playoffs that is a massive accomplishment. Or we could be fans of a team with a good tradition. A team that is used to being one of the better teams in it's conference. Do you think Laker, Celtics, Bulls, Knicks, Jazz etc would be happy with having One losing season. Hell no, and we shouldn't be either.
YES, I AGREE...38-44 basketball is such a FUN product. It's so fun, I think another 2 years of this will be the perfect cure to the no superstar blues!
Tanking isn't something that would be done for just one season/draft it would be done until we find something worthwhile. Its not perfect, but its better than mediocrity.
wait and see is a strategy for lazy losers. Admit it, we've failed to dramatically improve our roster with a star to build around. Tanking is out of question only because we made the mistake for not doing it. 2 seasons have already been wasted because we are settled for mediocrity. tanking 2 seasons >>>> 15 years of mediocrity and counting.
Well merla. I dont call going young and trading for draft picks tanking. I call it a direction. If they happen to lose doing that? Then thats the byproduct of that method or direction. If they win still? That means they hit real big on one of those young guys which is good for us too.
Tanking is not exactly what I propose. I just want to see the young players play, and that probably means less wins. I would love to see Patterson and Williams playing 30+ minutes a night. At least we would be able to tell what we have.
That's what I'm talking about the Rockets got rich history and tradition. Back to Back Championships Lots of Playoff victories and appearances. Some of the legends have put that Jersey on. I may be a younger fan(30), but I remember the Back to Back days and the good days that followed, but the last two years we've been mediocre at best and a couple years even before that. Except for the Big three year we've been mediocre at best. We didnt make the playoff last year and we'll be lucky to do it this year. Something in the formula has got to change. We need a star and we're gonna have to let some of are pieces go to get it. Only people that should be safe PPAt and Kevin Martin Klow(intangibles like a young battier).
Sometimes I don't know if you are serious with these posts. First of all, I don't know think tanking is as easy as snapping your fingers. How can you convince bunch of hard-working players that is capable to winning 40 ish games and fight for a win every game to win 20. I really can't imagine adelman saying to the players, yeah, just don't play hard and Scola, Martin Lowry, you won't get playing time because the GM told me to lose to get a pick. I think the so called "tanking" is the team actually sucking. Tanking is just a stupid justification of being the shet team of the league. You think Cleveland, Nets of last year, and Wolves are losing on purpose? They aren't winning games not because they are tanking, they aren't win because even if they tried they can't because they suck. It is not even realistic for a team like the Rockets with capable players to win only 20 games.
The Rockets needs the business plan not just waiting one year after one year; If ur team doesn't compete, u should consider rebuilding;
What many of us mean by tanking is to get rid of the players that are older and also keeping us afloat. At least that's what I mean. No one expects the players to go out and lose on purpose. That's never happening.
People can hope all they want about tanking, but it'll never happen. Coaches, players and GMs want to keep their jobs. IMO, you're a ****ty fan if you root for your team to lose.
You guys are missing the point. There is no way that we can tank this season, so talking about how we should tank, should've tanked last year, this year, etc is like crying over spoiled milk. Its too late! I'm not saying that we shouldn't develop our young talent if it means losing games, but tanking this season is out of the question because we're too good to get a top 8 pick even if we were to lose out the rest of the season. By the way, all of you are bipolar fans. I remember earlier before the season started how excited all of you were about our current roster and even had many fans predicting us to be a top 4 team in the west. When Yao went down and others started to decline instead of build upon last year, then all of you realized (about a month or so ago) that we could just go into tank mode and magically land a top 3 lotto pick. Tanking isn't something you can just do in the middle of a season when things didn't go as expected, talking about what we should've done isn't going to help which is why I'm telling everyone to stfu about doing it now. I'm not saying we shouldn't tank in a year or so, but tanking now and tanking last year is too late. By the way, whoever it was that mentioned the great history of the Lakers, Celtics, Jazz, etc. Do you realize the Jazz haven't won a championship ever? The Celtics took over 20 years of being a lotto team before they finally became relevant again. I don't recall the Celtics being in the finals during the 90s or 2000s until the KG, Allen trades happened. As for the Lakers, they're a unique franchise that super stars get wet over, so of course they're going to always have great players. To compare Houstons 2 championship tradition to their 20+ finals appearances is a joke. We're no where near their level. Look, I'm all about improving our team and making us a contender again. I want us to play Paterson at C or PF 30min a game and free TWill at SF instead of that albino from Arizona. But tanking THIS YEAR and talking about LAST YEAR is pointless right now and that's what this post is about. If we can't land a star this trade deadline or before next season, then YES, I say we start all our young guys, trade off the old Vets and rebuild at the START of the season. You can't go into a season and have playoff expectations like we did when we thought Yao was healthy and suddenly go into tank mode 50+ games into the season.
You're wrong about that. We can still get into the top 10 of the lottery by trading players + Swapping our pick. Higher lotto picks are just more valuable to our team right now. The point wasn't about what those teams have won or haven't won. The point was that those fans wouldn't be happy about it. You want US to be happy with mediocrity? I think there is something wrong about that.
