Fate is angry at the Rockets, the one time when the big giant mega huge max expiring that has been occupying a roster spot for two seasons finally is valuable for trade purposes, and it just happens to be the offeseaon before the lockout - ergo there are no takers.

It's enough to propel you into a tinman-esque 90's state of mental regression.

Yao's value is that his contract is 80% covered by insurance but that's trumped by the Cavs, Toronto, and Nuggets who can offer TEs.

Houston still working on multiple scenarios but there's nothing imminent on Rockets front. Very aggressive though.

I'm guessing the Rockets want to keep his Bird rights to bring him back as the new Mutombo next year, spot minutes off the bench, continued marketing $$$, etc. Plus keep his insurance money this year. There is no guarantee that there will be a MLE under the new CBA to use to bring him back. Plus, maybe they want to sign him to a contract in excess of the MLE, highly conditioned on performance / incentives. I.E., being signed for a $10 million salary, but only if he does X, $5 million if he does Y, $1 million if he never plays again, etc.

They already have lots of expiring contracts to move, Battier, JJ, etc., +$3 million, if a "have not" team wants to cut salary.

Rockets rely heavily on corporate sales and sponsorship. Their attendance isn't that far off from Minny's.

Maybe we will get more use from Yao as a mid level paid player next season.

Yao makes Houston Rockets franchise too much money he was never going to be traded it's BS! All they care about is being a top franchise on the Forbes list.

The Rockets would be crazy not to take that trade. From a talent standpoint, anyway.

This is actually good news. Yao has been nothing but great for this organisation so I hope he retires here. If he's traded, I can't wait for him to be very productive and fans whining how we let him go like Tracy haha

Les probably saw the negative feedback moving Yao from some fans especially ones in China and decided it's not worth losing the tens/hundreds of millions he is making in China

Perhaps this isn't the best time to tell you that the Carl Landry (~$1.6M remaining) and Joey Dorsey ($881k) trade exceptions have expired.
