The Charlotte Bobcats seem intent on moving Gerald Wallace to a new team by the Thursday deadline and have aggressively courted the Mavericks, Rockets, Clippers, Pacers and Cavs. The asking price has been an expiring contract and a protected first-round pick. So far they've been unable to get a team to bite, though there have been rumblings Wednesday morning that the Cavs may use their $14.5 million trade exception generated in the LeBron James sign-and-trade this summer to land Wallace by the deadline.
Looks like the asking price isnt much, but that 2012 season player option scares the hell out of me. Is there a way to convince him to not pick up that option? If we do get him, and a side deal for Asik, it would be a great deal short team, but again, not good for the summer of 2012...unless we shed some salary else where (Scola) by that summer.
Please Morey, do it! By the way, don't we have another trade exception (besides the Yao one that expired) ?
2012 Knicks pick which shouldn't even be a lottery pick. I would do Jeffries + That Pick in a second. Then maybe we can get involved with Boston and bring over Perkins.
I think we might be waiting to move Battier first. I'd rather the Rockets flip him to a contender, then send another expiring contract to the Bobcats, preferably Jeffries, for Wallace.
Remember, he has a player option for 2012, meaning that would eat up most of our cap room (with him, Scola, Lowry making considerable money) for that summer when D. Howard, CP3 become free agents. Just something to contemplate. Its by no means an easy deal to make even it doesn't cost you much asset wise.
What are the odds get in on those two ? The Rockets can only get a great player through the draft or luck. By then, Scola is probably on his way out also.
i predict at the trade deadline of 2013, we will be talking about not taking players that could affect our plans for the summer of 2014.
You just said it though, if we get Wallace, that also reduces our chances of getting anyone good through the draft. I'm not saying I'm against getting Wallace, just saying its a tough choice...
Its a sad day in Rockets history when people are excited about trading for Gerald Wallace....seriously? Gerald Wallace?? We are on our way to a championship with that trade.....
They should go after Zach Randolph and Gerald Wallace. Randolph would be your low post offesive scorer along with Scola, they would be beast down there. You go with the same concept you had with Yao, thats why you brought in Martin anyway, inside out game. Randolph is due at the end of the year as well and probably can be signed easily, hes just looking for some love.
