Was it a big game for Mack?

i think it was a big game in the idea that TX needed this win to stay legitimate BCS top 8 contenders this year.

however, its still not the victory over a top 10, championship caliber team, that horn fans are waiting for.

no chance for that this year, unless we get to a BCS bowl.

I think it was certainly a big game, in that it was a very good opponent, had serious implications on the B12 championship race, and was on the road.

It was especially a big game for the offense against their defense. That still sucked (less than 250 yards), but at least they competed. They moved the ball and threw all over the field rather than only going sideways. Simms played very well. Oddly, the deep balls were pretty much the only thing working - we still need more of that. The defense played really well also. It was the type of game we really needed - a close, competitive game that we win against a real opponent.

I still don't understand how this offense keeps putting up under 250 yards in so many games, but they made the plays when they needed to make them yesterday, and that's a very positive sign.

I think the offense is painful to watch. So much talent, but they seemed handcuffed out there. Simms made a couple of nice throws, but I guess it kind of hurts me to say that I now realize he is not in the upper echelon of qbs right now. He's good enough though.

On that 3rd and 3 before the fieldgoal, I think he could have ran it for the first down.

I don't know if Kurt Warner would be considered in the upper eschelon of college QB's if you gave him Greg Davis' offense. I'm serious... the plays are that bad. Yeah, we went deeper more times yesterday than before, but you have to think about when we went deep. Again, we primarily passed when pretty much the entire world knew we were going to pass, so that makes it a whole lot more difficult as well.

Also, I agree with your comment about running for the first down. He didn't have much of a chance at completing that pass. He should've at least tried to run for it... if he missed it, the angle is a whole lot easier for Dusty, and it makes KSU waste one of their timeouts.

IF UT wins out, I think we'll be no worse than #3.

we'd need losses by Georgia and OSU for that to happen.

If they win out too, we'll just have to hope we can get into the BCS, since ND gets their bid in 2 more wins.

ND will be exposed next week against FSU. Uga will lose once, imo. OSU has to play UM.

Our toughest game left may be ATM.

If we win out, imo, we'll play for the national championship. I know who has to lose... everyone said the same thing last year.

There are certain teams that simply will not go undefeated. Anything is possible, but Notre Dame, Ohio St., and Georgia are not championship caliber football teams, imo. I don't care what the schedules are. Almost every team has been close with Notre Dame. Alabama, Tennessee, and many other teams have played close with Georgia. Ohio State had to have a couple of unreal fourth quarter plays to beat Wisconsin.

I think, at some point, that those three will lose. After that, that leaves you Miami, OU, and Virginia Tech. Miami and VT play each other, so that takes out one of them. Also, I think it's possible that Tennessee (in Knoxville) could shock Miami, and then Miami beat VT, and perhaps knock both of them out.

Even if that doesn't happen, we'd still be in the Fiesta Bowl if OU lost a game. I know how well they are playing now, but I think they'll have a couple more close games. They're good, but not as good as they played yesterday. They have to play against a very underrated CU team, on the road against an improving Aggie team, and probably the big 12 championship against Colorado again. OU going undefeated isn't a lock at all.

gr8-1, can you explain why Mangum is the scapegoat in the UNC game?

    I don't understand your statement.

Did I say that in another thread? If so, I was drunk last night. Sorry.

You incredibly underestimate OU. They took care of business against UT then totally dismantled ISU. They could stumble once, but if they win the Big 12 championship, they should still be rated higher than UT.

No, I don't underestimate them. I know how good they are playing, but I also know that every team has some close games. They are not invincible, especially on the road, and they'll be close. You can claim should all you want, but in the world of college football, it's all about when you lose. If you go back to '93, FSU and ND had the same records, ND won head to head... and look who won the title.

The key, for us, is that ND and someone else need to lose in the next couple of weeks. We need to get up to that 5 spot, because if OU or Miami loses, I am pretty sure that they would have to fall farther than 4th. However, if we are still at 6 or 7, they would likely still be ahead of us, and we'd need them to lose again.

I predict that Georgia will lose to Kentucky next week and Notre Dame better lose to FSU. I'm pretty sure OSU would lose to either PSU or Michigan. If we won at ISU, we'd be #4. Cat has a good point about Colorado. OU was ridiculous yesterday, but they could lose a game. Miami could lose to Va Tech or Tennessee, but I'm not too sure about it. I guess it'll be Miami vs OU in the Fiesta Bowl, but UT should get a BCS bowl hopefully if they win out.

Lets say UT and OU finish the year 11-1. OU wins the Big 12 (12-1). UT would be in a good position to get an at-large bid in the Sugar or Orange, but I find it hard to believe they would jump over OU.

If OU plays like they played yesterday, they give Miami a huge scare. Miami is not invincible either. FSU should have beaten them.

I think OSU will lose one, as will ND and UGA. That basically leaves, possibly, an undefeated OU, undefeated Miami, and a one loss Texas, if everything plays out the way it should. I think a one loss Miami goes to the Fiesta ahead of Texas as well.

It depends on when they lose.

If UT is at 5 when OU loses, we'll go to the Fiesta. If we are at 6 or 7, OU will still be ahead of us. OU winning the Big 12 championship over a North team (that really isn't a contender) would not be enough to jump them over an idle Texas team, imo. It worked in one poll with CU last year, but I seriously doubt it happens again.

Also, a lot depends on how OU loses... would they be beaten pretty solidly, by 10 points, or would someone just happen to make a big play late to squeeze one out? We'll see, but hope for the former.
