I loled. Yeah well to be fair, since Isiah left New York has made a few good moves. Felton FA signing, drafting Fields, Gallinari turned out better than expected, and of course Amare. D'antoni is also a decent coach.
Well DD will be happy since he hated Melo. <a href="http://www.gifbin.com/984266"><img src="http://www.gifbin.com/bin/062010/1275905143_raging-midget.gif" alt="funny gifs" /></a>
Holy crap!!! Just woke up and read about the trade... Our Knicks Pick and Knicks Swap pick as it stands now SUCKS!!!! I can't believe we couldn't move the picks before this trade... Now the trade value of both the pick and the pick swap is unbelievably low.
ESPN will be making some alterations to its schedule to accomodate NY now. now this deal was a deal NY had to make. regardless of how we all feel, NY had to make this deal. they know it too. melo wants his max contract before the new CBA is determined and he forced this.
Whether or not the Knicks are relative or make the playoffs isn't the point. My response was to the statement that there was a good chance that Paul or Williams goes there. That simply isn't true. As John Hollinger said in his article, it's highly questionable that the Knicks would have the cap space to sign another big name FA. That's great that those guys mentioned playing together in a toast at a wedding. Carmello wasn't even going to risk only getting whatever the max salary is in the new CBA, so now Chris Paul or Deron Williams are going to take half to one third of their market value under the new CBA? Hard to rate that as a "good chance" of happening. If Paul of Williams is going to play for a fraction of what they are worth then wouldn't it be much smarter for them to go take that pay cut in Miami, LA or Orlando? They'd have a much better chance to win a title in those places than they would with the Knicks.
ding ding ding. you hit the spot. melo and amare both will make max money. chris paul or deron will now force trades to go to orlando and team up with dwight. or dwight can force the issue next year and go to one of their teams. i think that's the next superstar combo. i don't think you can find 3 players who all take less than the max like the heat big 3 did (in their primes).
The Knicks, as of now, only have financial commitments to Amare, Melo, and Toney Douglas in the free agency year of 2012. They would have to take less money but I don't think it would be a third.
Yeah, I never understood that. Were we not allowed to trade that 2012 Knicks pick or something. Because why would you keep both swap option for 2011 and the 2012 pick. Seems like putting all the eggs in one basket to me.
This is a legitimate question I'm asking, since I'm no expert at salary cap issues, but say Chris Paul forces New Orleans to do a sign and trade with the Knicks in the off season, as is the case most of the time when a big free agent leaves his team (he is usually sign and traded, Lebron and Bosh both were technically traded, not signed in free agency), wouldn't the Knicks have Paul's bird rights meaning they can go over the cap to sign him? If not, then I see your point, although there are a lot of loopholes when it comes to this stuff as long as players want to play in a certain place, as happened in Miami and Boston.
If Chris Paul joins a nucleus of Melo, Stoudmire, and Billups, then the Knicks have to be considered a serious, serious contender for 2012. Good free agents will be knocking at NY's door. Darn it.
Paul can't force New Orleans if New York can't sign him. I mean, what's he going to say? "You trade me to New York or I'll sign for them for only 10 million?" Now if New York had good assets, than a deal could be worked out possibly. That's what we tried with Bosh. But New York currently has nothing to trade with for someone like Paul.
Who says sign-and-trades will be valid under the new CBA? Same thing for Bird-rights. Going over the cap? We'll see about that too. I wouldn't make any assumptions.
