Great. Now our Knicks pick is pretty much worthless.

Nuggets will NOT move Gallo/Mozgov to NJ. "We got these guys to play for the Nuggets," GM Masai Ujiri says. Updated story soon on NBA.com.

How did they sell their future? Do you think either Chandler or Gallinari will be better than Anthony?

And, it's not like Melo is past his prime or something, he's 26.

They traded a couple decent SF's for a perennial all star. It doesn't matter whether or not he's a superstar or if he'll even make them a great team. He's a much better player than the players he was traded for.

There's a good chance that Paul or Williams ends up there? Really? How so?
You do realize that the new CBA is expected to be much more restrictive?

Here's John Hollinger's assessment of those chances:

It's not clear how the situation gets better down the road. New York has its eye on one of the 2012 free-agent trinity -- Dwight Howard, Chris Paul or Deron Williams -- riding in to form a power trio with Stoudemire and Anthony. But if New York does the current deal, it would have no trade assets left to wrangle another swap a year from now. Since it's highly questionable that New York can create sufficient cap space under the new CBA rules, it seems the Knicks would have to fill in the gaps with lesser pieces.

Makes sense. Trading Gallinari for a draft pick would be stupid.

Sorry to be the Buzz Killington of the group but this trade makes them maybe the 4th team in the east for the next 4 years. No way they can pass miami or chicago, maybe they can pass orlando and even boston in two seasons.

Considering Melo, Amare, and Paul all publicly stated at Melo's wedding that they would all go to New York, and now two of them are there, they seem to be sticking by their word.

But even if Paul doesn't go there, the Knicks are now going to make the playoffs every year, likely be a top four seed starting next season, and are now up with the Lakers, Heat, and Celtics in terms of "most marketable team" in that they will always be on national TV, be a hot ticket in New York, etc, which I think is what was most important to them anyway.

I'm not saying they're a title contender, I'm saying they're now relevant and will be one of the national teams that the league is branded around, and the value of the franchise has gone up now. Keep in mind that this is a team that has been terrible for years.

Its a 1st round pick. Is worth something. Even if it is the 20's, that is still a decent player with Morey drafting. or a trade asset.

Not mention who says the NYK's 11-12 season? won't be like the Rocket's 05-06 season?

You can comically mismanage a franchise and still get a superstar, as long as you have the New York market.

    Money > moneyball.

i never thought highly of them. with that much money, even if they strike out on lebron, they will land somebody and make the playoffs. those picks were going to lottery picks. now they will be lower.

NY suffered through a decade of embarassment, so they paid for mismangement.

Nuggets come away from this trade with a nice looking roster:

    Ty Lawson/ Raymond Felton
    Wilson Chandler/ Aaron Afflalo
    Danilo Gallinari/JR Smith
    Kenyon Martin/ Al Harrington
Nene Hilario/ Timofey Mozgov/ Chris Andersen

I actually think this team is still playoff bound...

I wouldn't want Carmelo and Amare on my team. Don't think they complement each other all that well. Both are extremly lax on defense.....

The Knicks have a lot of holes to fill, don't see it working with the current roster. So this might work out better in terms of the picks Houston holds.

New York got Melo the same way Houston got TMac...that is the only spot he really wanted to go.

Agreed.. This means an incredible amount of hype, excitement, (and money) in the city of NY. The knicks always have had strong fan support, but this will have alot of people talking and excited. Think how excited we were when we got Tmac to pair up with Yao.
