I'm sorry, but comments like these about Yao are freaking ridiculous. What dominant center that spends his time in the pair doesn't have turnover problems. If you want to compare him to Dwight, then superman is worse, averaging 3.4 this year and 3.1 over his career (2.7 for Yao, and Shaw also). Yao really wasn't that clumsy either. You're right about injury prone, that's about it.
Denver just became the Colorado version of the Houston Rockets. This is a stars league and the star just went to NYC. The rich get richer. Same as it ever was. CP3 NYC watch begins here now...
The only thing the Knicks should have done was keep Felton and find some other way to keep Billups in Denver. Felton at this point is better than Billups.
If Rockets could have traded one of Yao or TMAC while they were healthy..... Denver are better managed.
HURRY MOREY!! Dolan and Isaiah are on a roll!! Trade AB for their 2016, 2018 and 2020 first round picks!!
The difference being that Dwight is a dominant rebounder. Yao is nice, but someone that injury-prone is not worth it no matter how good they are.
Why do people keep acting like the Knicks gave up so much? Sure they don't have much of a team left but they didn't have a solid full roster to begin with. Chandler is a good player and Gallinari is decent but they're probably dodging a couple bullets as they are both likely to get overpaid with those gaudy dantoni ball stats. And, this sets them up nicely to have only smaller contracts and an expiring Billups just in time to sign CP3/DWilliams.
The Knicks are winners in this trade. It's hard to grab a superstar. It's easy to build a bench. We should know that. Getting a top 10 player without giving up one stud or one high pick...winner. Sucks for our draft rights from NY though.
I like the fact that the Knicks were able to hold onto Landry Fields. That's big. And Billups is one of the best PnR PGs in the game, a big upgrade over Ray Felton in that regard. The Knicks defense is still going to be complete doo-doo.
It's because they sold their future for 2 all-stars. Not superstars. Just stars. They won't get past the Heat. They won't get past the Celtics. They sold their soul for a name.
I agree. Dwight rebounds and is a better shot blocker ( marginally ) than Yao. Runs the court better too. Bout it. Sucks. Wasn't arguing that though, just the turnover/clumsy comment. Overblown. Yao was a freaking beast. Easily the most skilled bigman. I would take him healthy over Dwight anyway, but its a pipe dream. Who cares. Glad the Melo garbage is done.
they lost 3 starters, so they have to build more than just a bench. melo is NOT a superstar. they won't be better than the heat big 3 or the bulls in the foreseeable future. and melo and amare are commanding MAX MONEY. so to build the bench/starters AND sign chris paul/deron? highly unlikely however, they will be in the news, sell out games, get on national TV, and be really relevant.
If they got 2 1sts for them it'd be a good deal, Kmart is my favorite Rocket but I think Morey is going to look at ways to go for young guys, look to be a top team in 3 years not 1.
All the Knicks care about is being a perennial playoff team and generating buzz in New York City. They want MSG jumping. With Amare and Carmelo, they will generate a ton of buzz and the Knicks will matter more in New York than they have in 10+ years. Plus there is a good chance that either Chris Paul or Deron Williams will now end up in New York next season. With Boston aging, New York would be right there with the Bulls as the second best team behind Miami if they have Amare, Carmelo, Paul/Williams, Landry Fields, etc. Boston and Miami set the new model for how to build teams now with three superstars, the Knicks are following that model and are now in the best position to build the next "big three."
