This past Friday, my athletics class decided to play a little touch football. To get specific, it was a variation of the game called Speedball. It was basically the same as touch football, but with some changes: You can throw the ball at any time, any amount of times. 4 downs to TD, or you have to kick to the other team. Any turnover that does not lead to a TD is kicked off to the team that got the turnover.

That's about it. Well, anyway we were up 2-1. (only 1pt for TD's.) We were on D with the other team pretty close to a TD. I was covering some guys, even though I shouldn't be since I'm more of a lineman. But anyways, the opposing QB threw a ball that I could barely get to...but I did. I jumped up and caught it and started running. I was about to get touched, so I tossed it forward to an open teammate, who I barely caught out of my eye. Shortly after, I was touched. My teammate then made another short little pass to another open man for TD. Afterwards, we quit.

BTW, I think I've done better than this, but I just wanted to share this one since its fresh in my mind. My question is what where your best memories of making a gamewinning catch, or a GW basket, or maybe even a GW goal? Just curious.

There aren't really plays in tennis, but...

We were tied with a team 2-2, and my match at #1 singles was the deciding match. I dug out a three-setter to send us to the conference finals. It was pretty cool.

And I returned a kickoff for a touchdown in practice. Haha.

I pitched a no-hitter in a high school baseball game versus Corsicana. I also helped win the division-clinching game vs. Round Rock McNeil with the game winning hit in the final inning, and two innings of hitless relief pitching.

    I enjoy bragging.

Well, its' not much, and it's not even a "play"- but I hit seven 3s last year in an intramurals playoff game. Five of those threes were in the second half. Yep, that's my highest moment in my sports "career."

I don't know. I've had a ton of good plays in soccer...I've been playing since I was tiny. But, the best I could think of was a spin move I put on a poor guy during a game. I was approaching the guy on the left corner of the 18, gave a jabstep to the right, spun around and dragged the ball with my right foot, and then instally hit a left footed shot on a rope that hit the far post about halfway up an deflected in the goal. We were playing an Olympic Development Team, so that made it even sweeter.

I hit a half-court shot at the game-ending buzzer. It wasn't the game-winner, but we were beating our rivals. I got hoisted onto shoulder and carried off the court.

I remember when I was in year 11 at school, and the coach of the year 8 basketball team asked me to play in his team for one game. The firsthalf we played like crap, and were down by about 15 or so. But the second half we kicked ass! The game clincher was when I set a MASSIVE screen, knocking my opponent onto the ground. I remember looking over at the ref (I thought they might call me for an offensive foul), but he just nodded his head and called play on. Anyway, my team-mate with the ball shot the three and won the game.

That was the best game I've ever played in my life. Not only because I personally did well, but because it was a real team effort.

Well I never really played orginized sports. But One time when I was about 10 or 11 there was a church kick ball game. All the adults were playing, It was bottom of the 9th so they let me pitch. The First guy kicked it right to me and I caught it for the out. The 2nd was some chick, She thought she would be smart and kick it the same way but away from me. She kicked it up and I saw it and Ran, Dived as far as I could, and barely snatched it out of the air, totally ate a pound of dirt, But everyone around was cheering. I felt pretty good.

I'm not sure what my best moment in hoops is. I've scored 30 points in games a bunch of times. My best accomplishment, I think was winning a free throw contest. I hit 23-25. I started off 3-5 and then hit 20 straight to win it. I've won like 3 foul shooing contests. My best accomplishment over a single season was when I averaged 21 points for a season.

In 5th grade PE class, we played softball, and I robbed this one guy twice when I was out in LF (literally and figuratively). I made a great jumping catch on a ball that was going over my head, Then I made a nice running catch going in on the ball.

Mine came no doubt when I was in 5th grade. Brace yourself its pretty long.

It was in our little league championship game, and our team had the 2nd best record in the regular season. Somehow amazingly, the 1st place team had been eliminated, so we were playing the team that beat them. Anyways.. we played awful for the first five (out of six) innings. Amazingly we were trailing only by 2 going into the bottom of the last inning. While i was sittting on the bench I calculated in my head that in order to win, I would have to bat (I'm not the most skilled batter so this thought troubled me) So we scored a run, and the next thing I knew, I was up with runners on 2nd and 3rd base. I had a 1-2 count and I almost took strike 3 but luckily it was about .0000000001 of an inch high. The next pitch came in, I swung and the ball rocketed into right field. Both runners scored and we won:D :D :D :D Man, I will never forget the feeling of my teammates mobbing me after that hit. So far, its probably been the greatest feeling of my life.

I used to be on the downhill ski racing team and would race in numerous events. I was always good at high-speed events like the Giant Slalom, Super G and Downhill, but I wasn't so good at Slalom races. Slalom is when the gates (poles) are close together and the racer has to smash his way through them with very quick turns.

Anyway, slalom was fun but in the big races I would almost always hook a tip or straddle a gate and end up bailing out. I think it came from being too aggressive. At one particular race, though, I just said to hell with the time and made a determined effort to just finish with two clean runs. Turns out, I finished in second. That particular silver medal means more to me than any of my GS, Super G or Downhill medals because in my 6 year skiing career, it was the only time I finished with two clean runs in a slalom race.

Best play I made wasn't quite an actual play, but the drama behind it. I've had plenty of good games in basketball and football growing up, but the best I had was in 8th grade basketball.

Our school team was playing on the road in a tournament, and we were in the championship game against the host team. They were supposed to beat us, but we hung around. We were tied and had the ball late, and I got fouled with just under 7 seconds left.

I don't think I had ever been that nervous before... fans were yelling, game was on the line, and worst of all, the officials took forever to give me the ball to shoot, so I had to stand there and get a little tight.

I ended up making both, and not touching the rim either time. They missed a shot at the buzzer, we won the tournament, and I was the hero, even though I only had 5 points in the game.

    I can think of 3...

    1) About 7 years ago, I was playing in a softball tournament one weekend with a pick-up team at a small town. We finished 3rd out of like 8 teams, but I had an unreal tournament...I went like 12 for 17 at the plate and hit 3 home runs including 2 over the fence (it was an open tournament meaning home runs over the fence were not outs). That is the only time that I have hit a home run in softball over the fence and I did it twice. The second time I hit one, I knew it was gone as soon as I hit it. What a feeling that was! I'll never forget running around the bases...I jumped up in the air like Fred Flintstone between 1st and 2nd screaming with delight. I was just in a groove that weekend.

    2) About 3 years ago, I was playing in the local church basketball league and we had our tournament. I was known as the top rebounder in the league as I had averaged about 12 to 13 rebounds a game during the season but only like 7 points. Early in the first half, I landed on the foot of a guy for the other team, spraining my ankle very badly. I sat out the rest of the first half, but put some tape on it and tried to run on it. I finally came back in about 5 minutes into the 2nd half and finished the game. I finished with a double-double...12 points and 18 rebounds as we won the game. The next day the whole area around my ankle had turned purple and black, but I kept playing any way on it (we wound up finishing 2nd in the tournament).

    1) When I was a sophomore in college (this was 10 years ago), I played for the ONLY time intramural flag football. My own damn dorm didn't think I was any good, so I joined the team of another dorm. In my first game, I ran a deep post pattern and was wide open. Our QB who had played at a small division 3 school named Bethany in West Virginia threw a long bomb to me. Some guy on the other team dragged me down before the ball got there, but I somehow still caught it (the ref called pass interference on the other team). After that play, I was in all the time. I went on to catch like 9 to 10 touchdowns including 3 in one game. Our favorite play (talking about me and the QB) would be on the first play of the game. I would look and see if the opposing CB playing against me was on me tight. If he was, I would look at the QB and nod my head. He would take the snap and I would run as fast as I can. My burst would always take the CB by surprise and I would always easily be open. Now, it was just a matter of running under the ball that was thrown, catch it, and score. We did this like for 3 straight games before other teams caught on...don't play tight on me...give me some cushion. I was named to the All-Star team and was supposed to play with some other guys during the halftime of one of MTSU's home games, but I felt that was somewhat cheesey, so I never participated in that. Unfortunately, I never would really play flag football again.:(

Oh, I forgot to add these:

    1) Ran a mile at 5 minutes and 25 seconds when I was a sophomore in high school

    2) Ran a 52 second 400 leg my senior year in high school (we were in 1st place when I handed off...we sure as hell didn't finish in 1st place at the end)

    3) At the same meet, I ran a 11.27 100 meter dash but finished 2nd in my heat (only the winners of the heats went onto the finals)

    4) Benched 200 lbs a couple of months ago (have gotten my max up to 220...working on trying to get it higher)

    5) Finally, when I was a junior in high school, I was goofing around one day after school and kicked a 40 yard field goal (I had played soccer for years) on our high school practice field. This temporarily gave me visions of going out for the high school team to be the kicker. Then reality set in the fact that the only kicking I would do would be on kickoffs at either the beginning of the game or the 2nd half because my high school team sucked so much. So, I passed on that opportunity.

It was the fourth grade. I was on the Deer Park Tigers, and we were playing the La Porte Cowboys. It was the final game of the playoffs. Actually, I believe this was the first year they started calling it the Superbowl. So it was Superbowl I. We were tied at the end of four quarters (0-0, if I recall correctly), so the game went into overtime. Each team had several opportunities to score and put the game away, but we had both failed--including me dropping that one pass. Coach called a play for me to go between the center and the right guard...and the rest is history. MVP of Superbowl I in 1980 at the tender age of nine; standing ovation when I received the game ball. I was wearing Houston's magic number--34. In this case because of Earl Campbell. I can't believe I'm not in the Hall of Fame. What are they thinking?

Oh how I hate to have to go back that far for my defining moment. :)

Championship game of a soccer tournament- regulation tie- overtime tie- shootout. I knew I was going to shoot (we had run through this in practice many times), but the coach shuffled us at the last minute and gave me the 5th position. Gulp. Their last man missed and the fate of the rest of my life was now resting on this shot. I tried to make the keeper think I was going to my right, and hit the ball way to hard aiming for the left corner. The keeper bit and shifted to his left, the ball blew by his right; chest high maybe 3 feet away. Not even close to the corner, but we got the win and I got the full on hero carried on the shoulders bit- which I didn't really deserve for making a penalty shot, but it was a major thrill at the time. :)
